WHO’S READY TO GET THEIR CROP ON?
The crop dates are November 1st through the 10th 2013. Designers will be posting their challenges on their individual blogs on Friday, November 1st through Sunday November 3rd. We have designers from all over the world so please be patient as the time zones will vary but they will do their best to have them up first thing Friday Morning.
You have through Sunday Night, November 10th midnight EST to get them posted. Main schedule is posted Friday and will be updated all weekend long. All questions should be directed to the Core blog to THIS post, on the desinger’s blog, or on our Facebook Hard Core Crop page here.
Each Designer will post their challenge on their blog with Linkitz. You will need to link your project to that post, again, by midnight EST November 10th. This way you can post your projects on your blog, Flicker, Pinterest, Photobucket or whatever photo sharing site you use and then just link them. We will have a master challenge list here on the Core Blog for you so that you can keep track of all the challenges easily. Challenges will be for layouts, little alterables, and cards so everyone will be able to find some challenges they will enjoy. All you need is Core’dinations Cardstock. You must use Core on your creations to be eligible! And all layouts must have photos.
We will also be posting tidbits and fun stuff on our Facebook Event page HERE so stay close because you never know when a giveaway will pop up over there!
SO…how do you win some Core???
Designers will pick an entry from their blog to win the Core’dinations Cardstock designated that day. Our team is looking for creative uses for Core (and other things like following rules). Get creative and show off you use that Core’dinations Cardstock! Some of our challenges are Holiday related due to the time of year. If you do not celebrate that particular holiday please feel free to use another one you feel fits the challenge the best. We are easy!
On or around November 13th, a master list of winners will be posted on the Core blog so please make sure you check back then to see if you won! (Designers will be posting on their individual blogs as well). The more challenges you participate in, the better your chances of winning! You may do each challenge as many times as you wish but you may not combine challenges. We also ask since our Designers and Team have put a lot of time in to this crop that these are newly created projects just for this event.
So get those photos printed…stock up on adhesive…we are ready!

Happy World Cardmaking Day 2013!
Who’s ready for a challenge? Our World Card Making Day 2013 challenge is out of this world! What do you think about celebrating our Hard Core Crafters from around the world together today & get crafty at the same time? AND do it ONE challenge? Any ideas as to how we might do that? I would keep reading if you wan to win THIS:
Here’s another hint from designer Suzanna Lee? Hmmm….well I definitely see some Core’dinations…..the world…a plane…some embossing and sanding….
Another hint? This time from designer Tracy Gruber….I see the United States….sanding….
Okay….I guess we can let you know now! Our challenge is to create a card that has to do with the World. Since it is World CardMaking Day, we want to celebrate all the papercrafters from all over the world coming together for this amazing hobby!
So…the challenge? Create a card using Core’dinations cardstock (must be visible) that focuses on the World theme. Use your imagination ….our first few examples take the challenge pretty literally but the rest of our design team created some examples, too. They are so creative and really went with the world/travel theme. And don’t forget to SAND!
LOVING Kate Nolan-Denham’s version of using the whole world! She used her Silhouette Cameo and used the negative image of the globe…how cool is that?
AND we have a bonus for you! This card from designer Mary Pat Siehl has a video! CLICK ON THE IMAGE AND IT WILL TAKE YOU TO OUR YOUTUBE CHANNEL TO VIEW. Her videos are GREAT! She takes you through the process to make this card step by step.
And loving this interpretation from designer Debbie Standard…yep! Hot Air Balloons work as well!
And Designer Vivian Keh has a super cool idea…she used her Sizzix embossing folder that is all about travel. See the plane and the post card images? Yep…that works, too !
And how FUN is this card from Designer Jill Lebbin???? FUN STUFF!
And Ava Gavloski stamped her sentiment about sailing….you can sail around the world, right?
So..what do you need to do? Let’s recap: 1.) Create a card using Core’dinations Cardstock. 2.) It must follow the theme of the world…traveling…visiting….across the miles…flying…be creative! 3.) Sand and use technique on your Core card 4.) Link up using Mr Linky by Monday, October 7th at Noon EST. 5.) HAVE FUN!
Our Hot Topics feature the greatest tips about using Core and all the latest news about contests and giveaways. If you are here today then you must be receiving our BRAND NEW Hard Core Crafter newsletter. We are hope you are enjoying it so far!
So what is the tip this month? CHALKBOARD!
Chalkboard projects are all the rage so keep reading to discover how you can use our Black Magic cardstock to add interest to these projects like this layout from Special Projects Team Member Leica Forrest:
Tip 1.) Make it look like it’s really chalk by using the Outlining technique. New to outlining? All you do is take some removable adhesive and put your chipboard letters on your craft mat and then sand over it. You can check out the Technique Video HERE. Lecia used this technique for the “FAMILY” title and then outlined it with her white marker.
Tip 2.) Sand punched pieces and layer them on your layout base so it looks like it is chalk. See that scalloped piece above the Family tile? Leica punched first, sanded and then adhered it. It looks just like a colored piece of chalkboard! She used the same technique for the banner along the bottom of the photo. The yellow and blue look JUST like chalk but all she did was and the cardstock so the colored Core comes through. It’s that easy!
Tip 3.) Use your white gel pen or marker on the Black Magic Cardstock just as you would with any other cardstock. Highlight the title…add some journaling….doodle…whatever you want! Looks awesome, don’t you think? Lecia used this technique along the right hand side of the layout for her journaling.
Tip 4.) Use white embossing powders on your Black Magic Cardstock. The white embossing powder looks just like writing on the chalkboard itself. Clare then sanded the remaining parts of the card to really emphasize the look and feel of a real chalkboard.
Tip 5.) Find stamps and other products to core’dinate with your Black Magic, like our team members have done below, to maximize it’s potential. White or opaque heat embossing is a GREAT idea. With Core’s heavy weight it stands up to heat embossing beautifully.
Tip 6.) Don’t be afraid to keep is simple. Yes, the above layout has a lot of detail. You don’t always need to do all of those layers. Designer Tracy Gruber’s example below is a sample. Just some stamping and then background sanding is all you need.
The key is sanding with the Sand it Gadget.
And we have MORE examples for you. First up we have Designer Vivian Keh. P.S. Don’t forget ALL of our speciality collections come in 6×6 packs which are PERFECT for cardmaking! Vivian used a mix of stamping with her Hampton Art stamps, embossing and sanding:
And a close up: see how the sanding looks like chalk with the colored core? BRILLIANT!
Debbie Standard did a TON of sanding on her card and looks fabulous! She used the outlining technique (sanding OVER chipboard) for the title and then used her white gel pen to outline the letters so they could really stand out like Tip 3.
Tracy Gruber created a simple card for our next example as we referenced in Tip 6 — keeping it simple. She used some cute Lawn Fawn Stamps, (heat) embossed, added the scored frame and then did some sanding in the background as well. Easy BUT it looks like much, much more.
And next is a card created by Design Team Member Clare Buswell. Clare did many of the same techniques that the other designers some White (heat) embossing with this super cute stamp from The Craft’s Meow then sanded the areas of the cut out.
See how Clare used some of the Black Magic with the purple base (Whammy) and then used some Black Magic with the White Core where she stamped and then sanded (Abracadabra)? That adds to the element of different colored chalks.
Follow The Craft’s Meow on Facebook for more cool ideas with stamps!
We hope you enjoyed these Core Tips and look forward to see what you can do with your Black Magic cardstock!
