Happy Tuesday Tutorial!

I just love Tips and Tutorials. Today’s in no exception. Design Team Member Shaunte Wadley created this awesome layout today with her daughter. What better way to preserve memories than having your kids do it with you?!

If you want to see how to do this…keep reading! This is going to be two part series. Today we will be talking about how to make the title and the next part will be how to print on those cool Core Tags!

First, grab some Black Magic Cardstock and a stylus. Have your child press firmly and spell out there name. You can write lightly with a pencil if  you need to but very lightly. The pressure from the stylus will blend it in to the black cardstock.

Also, you need to work on a craft mat of some sort NOT a hard surface.  The stylus needs a soft surface so it can make an impression in the cardstock.

With your Sand It Gadget sand..sand …sand! Notice we are sanding the negative space. Doesn’t it look awesome?!

All you need to do is add some of your children’s art work and you have an awesome layout that not only preserves those memories of your children but truly makes them a part of it.

Other products used: Core Tags, Spotted Collection, Whitewash Cardstock.

Kids Crafts & Core – Make your own Seed Paper

Today we have a super cool technique for you from Design Team Member Char Dobson and her daughter. This is a TWO PART series from Char so stay tuned for part TWO next week!

Here is a alittle bit about the project from Char:

Today I have a very special project for you:
making SEED PAPER!
Not only is this fun, but it is great fine motor skills practice,
can be used as a science project, and as a wonderful gift for someone special.
What!?! Why!? How!?!??…you may ask…
because not only are we going to make hand-made paper,
you can actually plant this paper as well!
How cool is that!!!!
PART ONE
Supplies you will need:
#1: Scraps of Core Essentials cardstock
***this is a really great way to use up all those scraps you’ve been saving!***
#2: Scrap paper or newspaper
#3: Water
#4: Blender
#5: Fine mesh strainer
#6: Needlepoint screen
#7: Paper towels
#8: Baking sheet
#9: Seeds

Let’s get started!
Step 1: Pick scraps of Core’dinations cardstock with similar colours.
Have your child tear papers into small bits.
Not only is this fun, it is great for practicing fine motor skills.
Step 2: Tear up some scrap white paper or newspaper.
We often empty out our paper shredder or recycling bin for this step.
You should have two same-size piles of torn paper -
one of coloured Core’dinations, and one of white scraps.
Step 3: Alternately layer papers into a blender.
Fill at least half way with water.
Give it a whirl, adding more water as needed.
Step 4: The paper pulp should look mushy, like this.
Step 5: Transfer to a fine mesh strainer.
If your strainer has larger holes in it, simply line with paper towel first.
Press out excess water.
Step 7: Use more paper towels to blot squares.
Step 8: Gather seeds and sprinkle on top.
Press lightly into the squares.
Step 9: Let Dry over night
Stay tuned to for part TWO and how you will get this from that!

Welcome to our Kids Crafts  and Core Series!

Our awesome design team has put together a few tutorials that you will be seeing here on the blog that are designed JUST for you and your family. We had our first series from Design Team Member Char Dobson over Valentines Day here with some great Cricut tips.

Today we have Design Team Member Kim Jeffress and her son with a fun tutorial using Core’dinations cardstock, punches and other found items around the house. Here is a little bit about this project from Kim herself and a sneak peek of what they created together:

My 5 year old son in completely obsessed with all things Space. He spends all day everyday, reading Space books, drawing Space pictures and playing with his space toys.
He is also a BIG lover of craft just like his mum and I have to hide away all my precious Scrapbooking papers and goodies for fear he will cut them up.
Today we decided to create a Space picture using  some of my Coredinations scraps.
Step 1 We gathered a bunch of Coredinations cardstock scraps, scissors, glue, crayons and a pencil.
Step 2 To create the planet Mars he chose a piece of pre embossed Pink Paislee cardstock cut it into the desired shape then used the side of a crayon to shade over the bumps…”Look mummy a pattern” he shouted!
Step 3 He then used some containers to trace circles for other planets and cut them out! He also used the different coloured cardstock to cut out a rocket which he sanded and a sun…Glitter cardstock for a shiny sun!
Step 4 I helped him to cut out the rings for Saturn but he insisted on using my sanding block to sand the rings himself!
Step 5 My punches are definitely a favourite and he raced up stairs to get my star punch to create some stars.
Step 6 He wanted some craters on Mars so I suggested he use the kraft core to tear the top, he then drew and cut out the rest.
Step 7 He then went ahead and assembled his picture.
Step 8 Finally he wrote a simple story about his picture, he couldnt wait to read it to his daddy!
And here is the finished project! SO CUTE! And FUN!
