Summer Challenge: Brights Day Two

We are here with our Summer Brights Challenge!

Every month we challenge our designers to try new things. It might be a collection pack, techniques…something different just to get those creative juices flowing.  So for July, we challenged our designers to use the Brights Collection pack and to do some fussy cutting for some added interest.

The Brights collection pack is the PERFECT color palette for all your summer layouts and projects! Don’t be afraid of those bright colors..embrace them!

First up we have Designer Shaunte Wadley. She created a card trio for us today using Brights, David Tutera Celebrate Cardmaking system, Jenni Bowlin Core Impressions, Core Couture, & Vintage Cardstock.

And I love how Designer Vivian Keh used the purples in this layout. The possiblities are endless with what you can do with a bright color palette. Add a op of yellow and that gorgeous fussy cutting of her stamps and you have the perfect layout!

And nothing is cuter than a swimming doggie :) Blues and yellows are the perfect summer colors!

Don’t want to stamp on the textured side?  Flip it over!

And Suzanna Lee created a layout focusing on  the primary colors found in the Brights Collection pack.   And, not to mention, this yogurt place is awesome! You pick your own ice cream and toppings and then they weigh it for you. You gotta be careful though….it adds up! LOL!  Tone on tone embossing and die cuts with jsut the perfect touch of sanding. LOVE IT!

We’re BACK!

Wahoo! Our site is up and we are ready to rock-n-roll! But we did lose a few blog posts from earlier this week so today is one of those posts. Unfortunately they were some Fourth of July posts so it may seem a little  late so sorry about that!

BUT the good thing is that you can make these stars ANY time of the year! They look SO good on layouts, too.  Keep on reading for some great step-by-step directions from Designer Kate Nolan-Denham!

KatieCoreJuneCard

1)Create a card base, A2 size, made out of Red Rose Core’dinations Cardstock.

2)Cut a piece of White Glove CoreCouture Glitter Cardstock to 4″ x 5.25″. Glue to card base.

3)Deboss a piece of Navy Cardstock from the 4.25 x 5.5″ Darks collection and layer it on top of the white mat. I used Craft Concepts Solid Stars embossing folder for this card. The debossing is a GREAT contrast to the raised stars, don’t you think?

4)Die cut 3 larger stars in different sizes and 2 small stars out of the Red Rose cardstock leftover from making the base of the card.  I used Sizzix Star Framelits.

5)Score each large star at each point.

6)Scor the stars along the scored lines and sand them with the Sandit Gadget to give them a 3-D effect.

7)Die cut a label shape out of the White Glove CoreCouture Glitter Cardstock, trim the bottom of it so it will be flush with the White Glove mat already on the card.

8)Stamp the sentiment on the label you die cut in #7. I used Spellbinders Label.

9)Add the stars and sentiment label to the card using 3-D foam. I used Helmar Zapdots.

10)Give to someone.  This card is bound to brighten anyone’s day!

We are back on track with Tutorial Tuesday!
Remember this cutie we posted on our Facebook page during CHA?
Here he is at an angle so you can get the idea of all the layers. He’s a beauty!
WELL, the most awesome Designer Lydia Jackson who created this gorgeous owl using our Spotted Cardstock recreated a pattern JUST for you!  How cool is that?  PLEASE give her a HUGE Hard Core Thank you!
To create this owl that you will need are 3 colors of Core’dinations Spotted cardstock, black cardstock and a little yellow cardstock for the eyes, 2 black buttons and 3 types of Queen & Co washi tape. Tools: scissors, pinking shears, a crimper, Sand it Gadget and a Dust Buddy, Zap Dots and a Glue Arts tape runner.
First:
1. Print the owl part images on 8.5 x 11 paper and then use them as a template to cut matching color cardstock. See below.
Next:
2. Sand all elements and wipe off with a Dust buddy
3. Fold and stick  Queen& Co. washi tape around the lower portion of the eyes. I trimmed the ends of the washi tape with pinking shears, but most any decorative edge scissors will work.
4. Assemble the head with eyes and then beak and then using pop dots, pop up wings and and pop up head I used a thin pop dot on the wings and a thick dot on the head.
5. Create his chest feathers using this technique { here is this link http://lidibids-scrapnotions.blogspot.ca/2010/07/quick-leaf-tutorial.html }
6. And lastly cut or punch two hearts for feet.
Here are your print outs:
PLEASE NOTE: you may need to resize this print out on your own computer. Lydia’s orginal owl is 8″ but you can resize it to any size you wish. Just right click on the image, and click save in order to save it to your computer. We kept them sized as big as we could to fit on the blog (you will notice that they are larger then the screen) in order for you to be able to size them accordingly on your computer at the highest resolution.

{One} More day with Helmar!

Happy Monday Morning! yes, you heard me. We have another day today with Helmar.

So, this post was supposed to go live Saturday, I just didn’t hit “schedule”. I must have just hit “save” instead so sorry about that!  These things happen when you try and blog before the correct amount of coffee necessary to function.

Designer April Derrick created that shows off her love of Zap Dots and the 450 Quick Dry Adhesive.  It works great on wood embellishments which always seem to need a little extra “umph” to stick since they are a bit heavier.

And check out that coverage with the misting on the Tim Holtz Kraft Core! Love it….AND that embossed chevron strop along the bottom is  a piece of Tim Holtz Kraft Core Cut and emboss 2.5″x 12″. They fit the 12″ Sizzix embossing folders perfectly!!!!

* Helmar Products Used: Zap Dots, 450 Quick Dry Adhesive, Scrap Dots
