Earth Day How To

We normally do our Tutorials on Tuesday BUT in honor of Earth Day we have a really great project from Designer Lydia Jackson using her Core. For this project Lydia used the BRAND NEW Graphic 45 lights collection. The colors of this line are beautiful.
Last week Lydia posted this layout where she printed directly on her cardstock. Once she printed it, she realized that it was too small so it went into the scrap pile.
Hmmm..what to do …what to do? Well, her to crafty little guys figured it out! Punch it, emboss it and then sand it for the perfect card!

We have been talking about our BRAN NEW Tim Holtz KRaft-Core Shattered line a lot lately and today Designer Melissa Oliveira has a super sweet layout for you. And she uses the No. 1 for her background. Make sure you check out the detail shots so you can get the idea of how great this cardstock looks up close.
So, even though inking it and embossing it is a lot of fun, you can still use it as your go to cardstock for backgrounds in lieu of patterned paper.
Some products from our partners: Lifestyle crafts: embossing folders (for banners beside photo) and doily die cut (to the left of photo),petaloo: paper flowers, Queen& Co: pearls and Fiskars: paper crimper and border punches

So who wants a layout? ME! ME! ME!
Due to our Hard Core Crop and blog swaps we ran out of time to get Rebecca’s last Guest Designer layout out up on the blog so we are doing it today. Such a HUGE thank you to her and beautiful, out of the box designs that show off Core’dinations Cardstock. Jenni Bowlin Core Impressions was our very first line of Core Impressions and it is still a favorite around here. It is so versatile…just like how Rebecca used it for a Christmas layout. The Red is perfect!
Sand first and then add some paint or stamping details for that perfect accent:

Are you? Don’t forget you have until Sunday night to get the challenges done! That is a ton of time!
Challenges are listed here and Rules are posted here.
Design Team Member Melissa Oliveira created this gorgeous card for Debbie Standard’s ribbon challenge. Here is how she did it:
Begin by sanding the edges of a dark green card base from Core’dinations, then add a layer of black Pearls cardstock (from our Cardmaker series) and a slightly smaller piece of red embossed Jenni Bowlin Core Impressions. Add black photo corners for a bit more detail. Trim a piece of green May Arts ribbon and adhere to the card with a snowflake cut from a piece of May Arts trim, embellish with a rhinestone from Queen & Co. Die cut a bracket shape onto a piece of Black Magic, and punch a scalloped circle form a gold piece of Glitter Silk, mounting with foam squares to the center of the card. Finish by stamping a Cats Life Press “christmas time” image onto a piece of Snowflake Core Essentials and punching into a circle shape.

Guest Designer Rebecca Keppel

What a wonderful week we are having here at Core!
We are just FILLED to the brim with fun stuff for you. And today is another great day..we would like LOVE to introduce you to our September Guest Designer Rebecca Keppel. Rebecca has been a long time fan of Core’dinations and we are so happy to have her with us this month!
Here is a little bit about Rebecca:
In the beginning of 2005 I was a corporate attorney in San Francisco, but then my daughter was born and I became a stay at home mom. I started scrapbooking around that time and found the creative outlet a santity saver to say the least! We moved to Arizona and my son was born in 2007. They are the main stars of my scrapbooking show. I love practicing new photography skills on them and then creating layouts with those pictures. I’ve been blogging for about 4 years now and love sharing projects, ideas and photos on my blog. I also enjoy card making and creating mini albums and gifts for friends and family. I generally think of my style as clean with a focus on the photos, but with a definite fun twist. Two of my favorite additions to layouts are machine sewing and typewritten journaling. Since I started scrapbooking, along with my clean style has been a love of cardstock. I never create a project without at least a little of it. When I first discovered Core’dinations I couldn’t believe the dimension it added to my projects–there was nothing basic about cardstock anymore! I am so thrilled to be here as a guest deisgner and want to thank Core’dinations so much for this opportunity.
So how about a layout???
How cool is this idea?!
Rebecca used her Imaginisce distress tool (you know how much we love our Imaginisce here!) and this Sunburst Crafter’s Workshop Template and created this gorgeous sun! She worked from the front of the Vintage Cardstock because you are distressing it (unlike when we work from the back with scoring).
Wow is this just awesome!
Finish it up with some Jenni Bowlin Core Impressions, title and a few embellies and you have a fabulous layout!
We will have more amazing layouts from Rebecca later in the month so stay close!
