First up we have a layout from Designer Kate Nolan-Denham:
Halloween is one of my favorite times of year!  Definitely a time to for me to be imaginative and have fun.  The Halloween layout I am sharing today shows a fun way to use Core’dinations Kraft-Core Seasonal Impressions as a fantastic background.
To make the words POP on the background, I not-so-gently sanded all the words on the Halloween Seasonal Impressions Cardstock and theen added some chalk.  I really wanted the Kraft-Core to absorb the color in the orange and blue Chalking Inks so giving it a good sanding is the key.

KateOctLayout

The title work was super easy!  I cut the title out of a 4.25″ x 5.5″ piece of Black Magic with my Cricut and then sanded it like crazy so the blue background would play on the title.

Who’s ready for some projects?

First up designer Kate Nolan Denham with a layout:

Stamping on the backside of the textured Core’dinations Cardstock is one of my favorite ways to use that smooth side of the paper.  It always leaves me with a crisp image that pops.   Today I used Lawn Fawn’s “Many Thanks” sentiment stamps and “Quinn’s ABCs” to stamp the titlework of my layout on the smooth side of  Core’dinations Cardstock.

To create the fun scalloped bottom, I debossed my Core’dinations Cardstock using a contrasting ink on my embossing folder. So, for the purple cardstock, I used a blue ink and for the blue cardstock, I used a purple ink. Looks cool don’t you think? Then I punched out lots of circles, cut them in half and alternated the colors in five layers

Designing with Debbie Standard

We have three gorgeous layouts from the amazing Debbie Standard!

Debbie creates the most amazing projects…so much detail and SO MUCH CORE!  She really demonstrates the entire concept of, ahem, not needing any patterned paper.  You can do it!

I love using the White Wash collection – there’s just so many uses for it.  For my page here I  sanded over the entire sheet so some of the blue tones would come through and then up under the title area I put a piece of cloud chipboard and sanded over it in several different places to simulate the sky and clouds in that area of my page.  Then I had two small embossing folders and I used some of the bright cardstock which perfectly matched the little dress and embossed and sanded two small squares.  I then used the same paper and scored it around the area of my embossed piece to create little frames.  To make the embossed piece stand out I backed it with white.  The leaves were all created on my Silhouette machine.  As long as you can run these through your Xyron you can sand these delicate pieces before taking them off the backing and applying them to your page.  The flowers are all cut with Spellbinder’s Dies.  Then I  lightly sanded them – you have to be really careful doing this as they are delicate – I find it works best to put my finger in the middle of the flower and then lightly sand the edges of the petals.  The larger the flower the easier it is to sand.  Then I rolled the petals over my paper piercer and sprayed them with some Maya Road mist.  I continued to encourage the edges to curl after misting.  After they were dry I added some My Mind’s Eye brads.  This adorable little subject is my sister’s bff’s granddaughter, Bridgette.

I just love the dotted collection – both of them – one has larger dots and one smaller.  It even comes in the 6 X 6 too!  For this I started with a sheet of the blue in the Jillian collection.  First I scored a frame around the entire sheet and then I sanded only inside my frame.  Then I cut a piece from the Tillie collection in a lighter shade of blue and attached it to top of my page.  I then used a sheet of Core Impressions Fancy Pants collection which I sanded and then just cut out the frame from.  I made my clouds using a die cut and then cutting it from a sheet of White Wash – these make the best clouds – you can sand them letting the blue come through and they really look like clouds!  Then using some of the smooth tags I used one for my title tying a May Arts ribbon around it and another for my journaling.  The adorable little subject is my daughter’s bff’s baby – so love that she got these monthly stickers so she can record a picture every month for me!

I saw this wedding photo and immediately knew I would be jumping into my Core Amour collection for this one.  I also used some of the Core Pastels which were the colors of her wedding.  This particular Amour sheet only requires that you sand across the works.  Then I misted it.  I used my  Silhouette to cut some swirls which I layered down the side of the page.  I then used a Martha Stewart punch and placed a small pink ribbon over it.  The photo itself I first matted with black, then with pink and then which yellow white I tore around .  The flowers and butterfly all came from die cuts which I cut, sanded and then sprayed with Maya Road spray.  I let them dry and then put them together and attached to my page.  I added some little tiny die cut tags and some prima leaves.

Core Onyx Amour Collection

First a card from Designer Gail Linder:

My just-turned-two year old son is obsessed with trucks at the moment so I had to create a truck card for his birthday!

Using my Silhouette Cameo cutting machine, I cut out the truck in three core colors so I could mix and match it when I put it together on the card! I think I must say this all the time, but it is truly awesome how just a little sand can add so much dimension and definition to simple shapes like these!

And of course, what good is a dump truck without a pile of dirt? Torn, embossed and sanded Chocolate Box cardstock was the perfect, rough dirt for this (I have to say) cute little dump truck!

My son’s eyes lit up when he saw it!

And a layout from Designer Kate Nolan-Denham

One of the things I love about Core’dinations Cardstock, besides the colored core, is that there are so many fantastic colors of cardstock.  Color can evoke a feeling in a layout, it can help support the theme of a layout or it can just compliment the photos.  It is awesome that Core’dinations ColorCore Cardstock has so many colors that it makes it so easy to do of these things! When creating this “All Boy” layout, I wanted to use what I consider “all boy” colors.  Core’dinations Cardstock did not fail me!

To pop the ColorCore on the green background paper, orange arrows and brown titlework I simply distressed the cardstock with the Core’dinations Sandit Gadget and Dust Buddy.

I stamped some fun boy adjectives after adding a bit of Distress Paint to a Core’dinations Core’Tag. These sturdy, smooth tags are awesome for adding wet mediums. Stamping on the textured ColorCore Cardstock has such a great effect, too, as you can see on the “guareneed trouble” spot.

Summer Challenge: Brights Collection Pack

July 29, 2013 by
Filed under Core Blog, May Arts Ribbon, Provocraft

Every month we challenge our designers to try new things. It might be a collection pack, techniques…something different just to get those creative juices flowing.  So for July, we challenged our designers to use the Brights Collection pack and to do some fussy cutting for some added interest. Cut those stamps…cut those embossed images…you name it the sky is the limit!

The Brights collection pack is the PERFECT color palette for all your summer layouts and projects! Don’t be afraid of those bright colors..embrace them!

GX3000-04_LR

First up we have a tutorial from Designer Kate Nolan-Denham on how she cut out some stamped images from her Brights Cardstock. This is a super easy way to create your own embellishments, don’t you think?

KateChallengeJuly

Stamp directly on the Core texture side. Looks awesome!

KateChallengeJuly2

LOVE that thick outlined image you get from the stamping…

KateChallengeJuly3

And since circles seem to be a theme for a lot of our team right now, we thought we would share a layout from Design Team Member Gail Linder using our Brights Collection pack for this very challenge as well! Here is a little bit about this layout from Gail:

I think that bright, fun photos call for bright colors! I couldn’t go past an awesome YELLOW background for this layout!
Gail-Splash-Layout-1

To create an interesting background, I cut a heap of “bubbles” out of the same color cardstock using my Silhouette Cameo. I arranged them over the background and once I was happy with where they were, I gave each bubble a slight sand before adhering them. I just love the tone-on-tone look my background has now! And by sanding the edges of each shape, it makes them stand out just a little bit more!

Gail-Splash-Layout-2
I also used my Cameo to cut out the title and finally I added a cute banner up the top, adding a bit more color! You can see that I embossed and sanded each piece and I just love the look of the different textures all together.
Gail-Splash-Layout-3

I hope I’ve inspired you to pull out some Core and create your own background just like this!

And one from Design Team Member Debbie Standard. Debbie anchored her Brights Collection with some Whitewash. And how about all that embossing and sanding! Fabulous…every detail is just amazing!  Debbie combines multiple embossing folders form Darice, her Fiskars Paper crimper,  outlining on the layout base, die cuts….you name it!
