Today we have another returning Design Team Member…Shaunte Wadley!

I have had the pleasure of getting to know Shaunte over the past few years and she has an eye for design that always blows me away. She adds just the smallest details and I think, “Man! Why didn’t I think of that?!”   Here is a little bit about Shaunte:

I guess if I were to describe myself as a crafter- I would say I like little details- tags, tabs, pearls, tiny flowers, etc.  I also love to add texture and dimension to my projects. I love to sand, machine stich, die cut and I buy pop-dots in bulk.
I naturally gravitate towards happy colors, but I depend on my photos to determine my color palette.
My favorite Core products are Glittersilk and Vintage.
Vintage looks (and feels) to me like a good pair of comfortable broken-in jeans, which is what you will find me wearing almost daily. I like to embellish things with Glittersilk. Anything sparkly and glittery will always appeal to me!

Journaling reads:

40 hit me this year like a truckload of bricks. You tend to reflect on life at each decade- what worked, what didn’t. Here is what I know. Sure I have made mistakes, but I have also been pretty stinking lucky.

I married well. Sam and I still love each other- and humor has been the glue to hold this family together. We like to laugh a lot- at ourselves, at each other, and at life.

We have five great kids! They are hitting the teen years, and honestly? I really like these guys! Thanks to Sam’s job, we have had many adventures traveling together as a family. I turned my hobby into a job. Work from home in my pajamas? Yes, please.

Life is good. I am grateful.

Here is the detail of how Shaunte cut the title  with her Cameo. Cutting glitter cardstock, like our Glitter Silk, upside down and in reverse helps save your blade and make a nice, clean cut so your glitter won’t shed.

Supply List:

Tim Holtz Shattered Cardstock, Vintage Cardstock, Tim Holtz Kraft-Core, Glitter Silk (Shaute cut it on her Silhouette by putting the paper in upside down, and printing the title in reverse. ) Queen & Co. washi tape and bling.

Cards, Cards, and a layout!

Creating with the Tim Holtz Kraft Core Shattered line is SO MUCH fun! This card was just perfect for using this line.   Did you know that all the Kraft Core lines Core’dinate? Design Team Member Debbie Standard embossed the Core shattered and lightly sanded it so that it would show both the Shattered as well as the embossed image.

Supply List:
Tim Holtz Kraft Core Shattered
Core EssentialsNeutrals 6×6
Sand it Gadget
Dust Buddy
Cuttlebug
Lifestyle Crafts Folder
American Crafts sticker
Creative Charms flowers
Queen & Co. Pearls

Debbie made this card using some of the Tim Holtz Shattered collection in the 6 X 6.  This time she didn’t emboss it just left it as is.  Then she layered it over Core Essentials Brights cardstock and stamped on the back of the white for the top of the card.

And a layout using some BasicGrey Core Impressions: According to Debbie, she loves creating  layouts using some of the Core Impressions as the background .  Sanded and dusted it creates such a great palette to use on your page.

Additional supplies:

Sand It Gadget
Dust Buddy
Prima Flowers

Queen & Co Bling

Tuesday Tip–Chalkboard layouts!

Chalkboard is all the rage these days and did you know that Black Magic is perfect for it?  For this layout, Designer Leica Forrest used a few diffferent kind of Black Magic with a blue and pink core. This layout was in our booth at CHA and everyone LOVED it. The texture is just amazing!

Tip 1.) Make it look like it’s really chalk by using the Outlining technique. New to outlining? All you do is take some removable adhesive and put your chipboard letters on your kraft mat and then sand over. You can check out the Technique Video HERE. Leica used this technqiue for the “Family”  title.

Tip 2.) Sand punched pieces and layer them on your layout base it looks like it is chalk. See that scalloped piece above the Family tile?  Leica punched first, sanded and then adhered it. It looks just like a colored piece of chalkboard! She used the same technique for the banner along the bottom of the photo.

Tip 3.)  Use your white gel pen or marker on the Black Magic just as you would with any other cardstock. Highlight the title…add some journaling….doodle…add some Queen & Co. bling…whatever you want! Looks awesome, don’t you think?

Designing with Cari Locken

Today we are sharing some fabulous designs from one of our Special Projects gals. Cari Locken is a leading designer in the industry that has been with Core for years now. She creates special projects for us and she uses Core in her day-to-day creations,  too!

Today we have some layouts to share with you from her that have been featured in leading publications within the industry. She really has an eye for color and really knows how to use Core. From scoring to embossing….you’ll see it here today! Cari really knows how to use that Core Essentials as is or add that perfect pop of technique.

How cool is this masking?  Core and ink go great together! And again…that scoring detail is just perfect.

And one more….

For this layout Cari took the BasicGrey Core Impressions and turned it on its side! Love that kind of detail!

Hearts All Around!

We love some 8.5×11″ around here!

So for this layout, Melissa  embossed the cardstock FIRST and then sanded BEFORE  punching into heart shapes. This is much more Time efficient than individually embossing and sanding each punched shape. And if the shapes are tiny it’s a bit harder to sand those small pieces, too.

And that scored frame is just an easy way to create a focal point on your projects. Scor THE BACK of the cardstock and then sand the raised image on the front. It is THAT easy!

And, of course, the stitched circle is just the perfect detail to finish this cute layout.

Here is a close up of the Label technique we know and love here at Core. Melissa used her Label maker and then inked the raised letters so they pop off the cardstock. For more info on labeling check out our video here:

Journal strips are such a great way to accent your journaling. Again, Melissa used some Whitewash and sanded the edges…

Melissa used a variety of embossing folders from Sizzix, Darice and Provocraft in addition to some Queen & Co. bling.
