Thursday Layouts

Happy Thursday! Today we have some gorgeous projects for you! I mean, don’t we always? ;)

First up Designer Gail Linder and a beautiful display of our Pastel Core Essentials Collection Pack

I love fun color combinations! For this layout I had a special story to tell and a couple of photos that I converted to black and white so I could use a soft color scheme to match the overall “feel” of the layout. So of course, my first stop was the pastel cardstock collections for some soft pinks, aquas and yellow.

I used a simple grid design, adding cardstock squares the same size as my photos. I then had fun embellishing each cardstock block with – you guessed it – more cardstock! But when I added the layers on top, I embossed, sanded and distressed them to make them stand out and add dimension!

For a scrapper like me that LOVES distressed edges, Core’dinations cardstock sure makes that easy! With minimal effort (ie. just a light sand), your edges are DONE! I even sanded the tiny scallop edge and die cut letters!

My little girl started school this year and (I’m sure all Mothers would agree) that it was quite an emotional time! The night before the first day of school, I wrote her a letter that I hope she’ll read and appreciate in years to come. As the journaling was quite long, I added a flap to the cardstock blocks so they lift up to reveal the journaling underneath! Fun!

I made this page of my daughter’s bff’s new baby.  I’m scrapping for him because he’s just so adorable and I’m honorary grandma.  I started with a sheet of basic Core in grey.  I really like the more rustic used look of some of the Core when I have sanded down so that some of the white shows through.  Then I added a sheet of the black dotted core which I also sanded and matted with blue.  I added some yellow which I embossed bu only lightly sanded over the dot part of the embossing.  I used a Martha Stewart punch to punch a border which I then sanded.  I used a Spellbinder’s die to make my flower.

Some More Father’s Day inspiration…

June 13, 2013 by

Hi Everyone!  Ellen here today with a Father’s Day card I made…well two of them.  And they are very different!  I was inspired this week by two different things.

First up, I was working with some Couture Creations dies and after my cut I realized unfortunately that my sandwich was wrong. So it didn’t cut all the way through. That happens to me from time to time and I just put them in my recycle bin. WEll not this this time! I thought…I can do something with that…and I did! You have to check out their Doily dies..they are AWESOME! And versatile….

There was no way I could cut this with craft knife because it was too detailed so I grabbed my Sand it Gadget and I sanded and sanded and sanded a bit more and the “etched” image created starts to pop off the card.  It’s subtle but I think it works AND I saved some scraps ;)

And next up I was in my inbox and the daily RSS feed from Scrapbook & Cards Today was there and I found this treat: Folded Shirt Card for Father’s Day!

Aly Dosdal from the WRMK Design Team originally did the video so I had to try it out because I just KNEW that Core w0uld be awesome with this tutorial. I used Core Essentials for the shirt, Chocolate Box for the tie and background and a David Tutera Celebrate card for the base. I cannot get enough of these square cards!   For the original video check out the WRMK blog .

I gotta tell you…I did it on the FIRST try so it wasn’t that hard. You will need your Scor-Pal or scoring tool of some sort.

And  here is the inside of the card. You can open it up and put something in there.

Day FOUR with Simple Stories….

We are here with Day FOUR of our week with Simple Stories!

Make sure you head over to the Simple Stories blog to check out the gorgeous projects their team created for this week. We have been working with the Harvest Lane and Handmade Holiday collections this week. You will LOVE them and you MUST check them out HERE!  First up we have some cards for you today.

Today we are up with Designer Andrea Amu. She has this neat Primitive Tree that she decorates for all the seasons and she is sharing that with us today. Here is a little bit about it from her:

I chose to design some simple, but oh so cute and festive ornies to decorate my Primitive tree for the Christmas season!
These were all cut out from  patterned paper designs included in the 6×6 Handmade Holidays Paper Pad, and the shapes were
all cut using the Cricut Gingerbread cartridge. Here I was able to cut out 4 of each 2 3/4″ shape per sheet design.

The layers for each ornament were done with Core’dinations cardstock in Snowflake white Core Essentials and Heritage Kraft from the Graphic 45 Signature Series Core collection.

I embellished some of the areas of each shape with some Diamond Dust glass glitter and I attached hanger loops to each with 2 ply jute twine from Darice.

Bakers twine adorned with a small jingle bell were also tied onto each “ornament” and “snow beanie” shape for an extra festive touch!

We are here with Day THREE of our week with Simple Stories! How exciting!

Make sure you head over to the Simple Stories blog to check out the gorgeous projects their team created for this week. We have been working with the Harvest Lane and Handmade Holiday collections this week. You will LOVE them and you MUST check them out HERE!  First up we have some cards for you today.

Design Team Member Lydia Jackson created these cards for using the Harvest Lane collection and papers from the Core Darks collection…the PERFECT collection for those rich, fall colors.

Here are some details:

A card with a torn edge? SO COOL!

It’s amazing how some simple scoring along the edges can add that perfect detail…

Some great debossing…

Designer Debbie Standard created this card with some beautiful embossing and those cute little sentiments that make cardmaking as snap! Harvest Lane and Core look beautiful together!

And how about a layout from Designer Melissa Oliveira? Beautiful details using both Core’dinations Cardstock and Handmade Holiday.  The red cardstock is from Graphic 45 Signature Series and the embossed cardstock is BasicGrey Ornate Core Impressions.

Look at this gorgeous detail of the holy. Just hand cut the leaves, scor  and then sand and you are ready to go! Don’t  forget the Queen & Co. Bling …perfect for the berries.
