Tuesday Tutorial with Andrea Amu

We have a fun tutorial for you today from Design Team Member Andrea Amu!
But first up we need a winner from last week from our week with May Arts!
Judy Webb says:

Cannot get enough Core!!! Loving this week.

Winners email ellen_sosnoski@coredinations.com with the subject line reading the contest you won, For Example: March Color Challenge Winner. Also include in the body of the email your name, address, and phone number (only if international). We will send you a confirmation back that we received your email so you know your prize will be on it’s way soon! We ship prizes to our lucky winners twice a month once we receive all prize winner’s information.

Now let’s get to the this cool tutorial on how to make this!
Here is a little bit from Andrea herself:
Today I wanted to share with you a technique for making a pretty textural ribbon flower that can be used on a variety of projects.
I created my ribbon flower by covering panels of cardstock with rows of adhesive backed ribbon and then die cut and layering a variety of different sized floral shapes from the ribbon panels.
Here’s a list of supplies needed:
Choice of Core’dinations Cardstock (I used Jillian Spotted Cardstock)
Choice of coordinating ribbon  (I used May Arts Silky Crush ribbon in brown and teal)
Choice of metal dies (I used Spellbinder’s Nestabilities dies, Classic Scalloped Circles)
Die cutting/Embossing machine (I used my Cuttlebug)
Xyron 15 Adhesive and Applicator
Core’dinations Sand It Gadget
Decorative Brad
Okay, to get started you will want to cut various scraps of light colored cardstock into panels and then cut several strips of the ribbon.
You will want to add adhesive to the backs of the ribbons strips.  I have found that the easiest method of doing this is to run ribbon strips through a Xyron Adhesive Applicator.
Once you apply the adhesive to the ribbon, you can begin to cover the surface of the cardstock scrap panels, alternating strips of color as I have done, or  you can cover a panel using strips of one color.
Once all the panels are covered entirely with the ribbon strips you can now die cut your desired shapes from the panels using various sizes of dies.  To create my layered flower, I have die cut my shapes using scalloped circles dies from Spellbinder’s Nestabilities dies.  To give more visual contrast and texture, I have also die cut some embossed cardstock shapes to be layered into my flower as well.  I used a Sand It Gadget, which is a sanding block by Core’dinations, to sand over the embossed dots of the cardstock.
For the next step, you will want to take each die cut shape and crinkle it up in your hands… don’t be afraid to crinkle them up tightly… the more crinkle the better!   Now take each piece and flatten them back out, and  you’ve just created even more lovely texture and dimension to the pieces.
To form the flower, simply layer each shape center to center forming a stack from largest to smallest.  You will want to punch a hole in the centers of each and then attach the stack together using a decorative brad.  Before attaching my brad here I also rolled up a small piece of extra ribbon and coiled it around the center punched hole.  Once you attach the brad fluff up the layers to give dimension.
Now you can have fun embellishing your projects with beautiful ribbon flowers that you’ve made on your own!

I don’t know about you but I don’t get a chance to scrap Easter (or Holiday photos) until after the Holidays.  It seems as if then all they  hype is over and I we have moved on to the next Holiday for inspiration. Well not here! ;)  Today we have some inspo for you to get out those Easter shots from a few weeks ago and scrap them. Don’t wait until next year….if you are like me you will behind schedule ;)

Design Team Member Lydia Jackson created this layout with a beautiful mix  of Core. She used Pink Paislee Core Impressions (honeycomb and dots) and then she used her Spellbinders die to make the impression on the neutral cardstock found in our NEW Neutrals Collection packs.

And here is a detail of that impression with Spellbinder’s die. LOVE it!!

Make sure you check out their store for  some CUTE stamps and their blog for a chance to win, too! {Please note they are on the West Coast so their post might be up a bit later than ours since we are on EST}.

Today we have some cards from Design Team Member Char Dobson!

Char used a Darice embossing folder for the clouds…how much do you love that folder? And she stamped her cute little Sweet Shop Stamp right on some brown Core’dinations Core Essentials. And check out that gorgeous May Arts ribbon!

And who doesn’t love pie???????????? Char used her Spellbinder’s die to cut  the window and some more May Arts ribbon.

I also wanted to post about our Colour Lover’s Monthly Inspiration. For the past few months we have issued a challenge around our Pinterest board called Colour Lover’s. Sorry for the confusion but we are not offering a prize for this challenge at this time due to our GRAND PRIZE GIVEAWAY going on right now. It’s HUGE…a value of over $700!!!! She Shoots….

SHE SCORS!

Well…not the scoring you might see at a football game…but the FUN kind of SCORING! We highlighted scoring yesterday on the blog and I just happen to come across a few more amazing examples of how to SCOR with CORE ;)

We love love to scor here at Core. If you haven’t scor’d before than PLEASE check out our Technique Videos here. LOADS of inspiration and REMEMBER to scor from the BACK of your Core so when you sand the front with your Sand It Gadget, that gorgeous core shines through.

First up we have a layout from Design Team Member Lydia Jackson. Lydia created her own design here just by scoring! You can create a patchwork design like this and the outline around the layout to frame it, too. SO easy yet SO much impact.

Lydia used Tim Holtz Kraft Core as her base and some Core Essentials and added some great details from Jillibean Soup.

And design Team Member Melissa Oliveira used this month’s Colour Lover’s Inspiration palette for this layout. See how Melissa used scoring to frame the layers of the layout? Gorgeous gorgeous! I cannot  tell you how easy this technique is and how much impact it can have on your layouts with Core’dinatons Colorcore Cardstock!

Here is a little about scoring from Melissa, “Scoring is my favorite way to add some extra visual interest without added bulk or additional layers.”  I AGREE, do you?

And Melissa used her Petaloo flowers that match Core PERFECTLY!!!!!!!!

And a Spellbinder’s Die for the shape…
