Designing with Debbie Standard

We have three gorgeous layouts from the amazing Debbie Standard!

Debbie creates the most amazing projects…so much detail and SO MUCH CORE!  She really demonstrates the entire concept of, ahem, not needing any patterned paper.  You can do it!

I love using the White Wash collection – there’s just so many uses for it.  For my page here I  sanded over the entire sheet so some of the blue tones would come through and then up under the title area I put a piece of cloud chipboard and sanded over it in several different places to simulate the sky and clouds in that area of my page.  Then I had two small embossing folders and I used some of the bright cardstock which perfectly matched the little dress and embossed and sanded two small squares.  I then used the same paper and scored it around the area of my embossed piece to create little frames.  To make the embossed piece stand out I backed it with white.  The leaves were all created on my Silhouette machine.  As long as you can run these through your Xyron you can sand these delicate pieces before taking them off the backing and applying them to your page.  The flowers are all cut with Spellbinder’s Dies.  Then I  lightly sanded them – you have to be really careful doing this as they are delicate – I find it works best to put my finger in the middle of the flower and then lightly sand the edges of the petals.  The larger the flower the easier it is to sand.  Then I rolled the petals over my paper piercer and sprayed them with some Maya Road mist.  I continued to encourage the edges to curl after misting.  After they were dry I added some My Mind’s Eye brads.  This adorable little subject is my sister’s bff’s granddaughter, Bridgette.

I just love the dotted collection – both of them – one has larger dots and one smaller.  It even comes in the 6 X 6 too!  For this I started with a sheet of the blue in the Jillian collection.  First I scored a frame around the entire sheet and then I sanded only inside my frame.  Then I cut a piece from the Tillie collection in a lighter shade of blue and attached it to top of my page.  I then used a sheet of Core Impressions Fancy Pants collection which I sanded and then just cut out the frame from.  I made my clouds using a die cut and then cutting it from a sheet of White Wash – these make the best clouds – you can sand them letting the blue come through and they really look like clouds!  Then using some of the smooth tags I used one for my title tying a May Arts ribbon around it and another for my journaling.  The adorable little subject is my daughter’s bff’s baby – so love that she got these monthly stickers so she can record a picture every month for me!

I saw this wedding photo and immediately knew I would be jumping into my Core Amour collection for this one.  I also used some of the Core Pastels which were the colors of her wedding.  This particular Amour sheet only requires that you sand across the works.  Then I misted it.  I used my  Silhouette to cut some swirls which I layered down the side of the page.  I then used a Martha Stewart punch and placed a small pink ribbon over it.  The photo itself I first matted with black, then with pink and then which yellow white I tore around .  The flowers and butterfly all came from die cuts which I cut, sanded and then sprayed with Maya Road spray.  I let them dry and then put them together and attached to my page.  I added some little tiny die cut tags and some prima leaves.

Now we  more inspiration for you from Designer Ava Gavloski.

Creating with the Core’dinations Pastel collection is so inviting for a delicate project like a new baby card.  The texture of the cardstock with the soft color tones is perfect for any baby shower party decor or baby card. Going to a baby shower before the baby is born, creates the opportunity to design with any color combination outside of the traditional pink or blue.  Here is a card I designed with cardstock from the Pastel collection.  The texture is amazing after embossing and sanding to reveal the core color of the cardstock.

I like to  emboss  and sand  my cardstock before  I trace and trim out the paper piecing pattern as this allows for a greater showcasing of the inner colored core.   I just love this inner jewel toned colored core from the Whitewash Core’dinations Collection.  I embossed small bits of Core’dinations cardstock and cut out the heart pattern to make the charms.  To make the heart charms, I embossed small bits of Core’dinations cardstock, inked and trimmed.

My tip for you today is when you can’t find the right color of twine within your stash, just color another complementary piece of twine with some ClearSnap Pigment Ink.

VivianKehCoredinationsCard_B
Hello Core’dinations fans!  Vivian here today to share with you an elegant floral card using a muted palette of Core’dinations Cardstock.  I used a warm beige from the Core’dinations Jenni Bowlin “Everyday” Collection for my card base, sanding the decorative leaf pattern already conveniently pre-embossed in this cardstock.  I layered an elegant grey from the Neutral Collection that I had embossed with a great Sizzix embossing folder.  For the blossom, I die-cut and sanded the pieces for nice shabby appeal, piercing with a simple brad to hold the bloom together.  To finish, I added a bit of distress ink on all pieces, some bling and pretty seam binding.

Need a wedding card?  Look no further!

I love the aqua/ chocolate brown color pairing in just about everything, from papercrafts to home decor – both fresh and comforting.  For today’s project, I used Core’dinations Fancy Pants Designs”Refreshed” Collection, which delivers that comforting chocolate embossed in a variety of designs as well as your pick of pretty pastels that are also pre-embossed. This makes for great papercrafted projects in a variety of themes.
VivianKehCoredinationsLoveCard_A
I sanded all the layers and die-cuts and added distress ink to the edges. The sentiment was stamped using watermark ink and then heat embossed with embossing powder.  Just a little bit of embellishment and this card was done.

And nothing finishes up better than a layout, don’t you agree?
VivianKehCoredinationsLayout_A
I chose several bold colors from Core’dinations Darks Collection, which have great grounding colors that are perfect for masculine projects.  As you can see in the detail shot, there is so much easy interest one can create with Core – die-cut it, paper-punch it, sand it, tear it, emboss it, crimp it, distress it, stamp it.  All of these were used in this layout. The possibilities are only limited by your imagination!
VivianKehCoredinationsLayout_BThe story of how my husband and I met is really special.  And both of us still can’t believe how serendipitous our meeting truly was.  Hence, the “when pigs fly” stamping on my background, using the great kraft side of our Tim Holtz Kraft Core Cardstock with a simple black ink. His smile, and humorous personality brought levity to the rather challenging moment in our lives captured here on film. I simply layered a bunch of Core elements on top of a piece of old book paper, topping off with a little bling and some scrunched up mulberry paper that I had misted.

Supplies:
Core’dinations – Darks Collection, Tim Holtz Kraft Core, Venetian Lace (Cream Color), Sand-It Gadget, Dust Buddy
Darice – Dominoes Embossing Folder

Happy Friday! Altered Calendar Box with Graphic 45 in here!

How we doing today??? I hope you are as excited as I am  for today’s project from Designer Ava Gavloski. She created this gorgeous Calendar box using our BasicGrey Core Impression. WOWZA is it GORGEOUS!

It’s all about texture.  The Card Keeper box is perfect for many filing options.  Today, I am sharing with you my file which helps me remember birthdays, anniversaries and events that are celebrated yearly.  You could change this file system by making tabs for the types of cards you have on hand.  (ie: Birthdays, Sympathy, Anniversary, Baby etc).
Core’dinations cardstock adds volume and texture to this card keeper project.   Layering this project with Graphic 45 pattern papers was a delight as the Bird Song collection matched perfectly with the Core’dinations Whitewash and Distress collection.
You can find the start up instructions to this project at Erica Cerwin’s blog: http://pinkbuckaroodesigns.blogspot.ca/2012/06/stampin-celebration-june-blog-hop.html.  I adjusted the instructions a bit to fit my style of scrapping and my tip is to not glue the box together until you have the sides designed and glued down.  Enjoy!

Thursday Layouts

Happy Thursday! Today we have some gorgeous projects for you! I mean, don’t we always? ;)

First up Designer Gail Linder and a beautiful display of our Pastel Core Essentials Collection Pack

I love fun color combinations! For this layout I had a special story to tell and a couple of photos that I converted to black and white so I could use a soft color scheme to match the overall “feel” of the layout. So of course, my first stop was the pastel cardstock collections for some soft pinks, aquas and yellow.

I used a simple grid design, adding cardstock squares the same size as my photos. I then had fun embellishing each cardstock block with – you guessed it – more cardstock! But when I added the layers on top, I embossed, sanded and distressed them to make them stand out and add dimension!

For a scrapper like me that LOVES distressed edges, Core’dinations cardstock sure makes that easy! With minimal effort (ie. just a light sand), your edges are DONE! I even sanded the tiny scallop edge and die cut letters!

My little girl started school this year and (I’m sure all Mothers would agree) that it was quite an emotional time! The night before the first day of school, I wrote her a letter that I hope she’ll read and appreciate in years to come. As the journaling was quite long, I added a flap to the cardstock blocks so they lift up to reveal the journaling underneath! Fun!

And another layout from Designer Debbie Standard. How much do you LOVE this color combo????
I made this page of my daughter’s bff’s new baby.  I’m scrapping for him because he’s just so adorable and I’m honorary grandma.  I started with a sheet of basic Core in grey.  I really like the more rustic used look of some of the Core when I have sanded down so that some of the white shows through.  Then I added a sheet of the black dotted core which I also sanded and matted with blue.  I added some yellow which I embossed bu only lightly sanded over the dot part of the embossing.  I used a Martha Stewart punch to punch a border which I then sanded.  I used a Spellbinder’s die to make my flower.
