Say Hello too….Vivian Keh!

For the past two weeks we have been giving away prizes EVERY DAY while we introduce our brand new 2013-2014 Design Team and today we are introducing Vivan Keh!

Here is a little bit about Vivian:
Vivian, (aka contadinak on youtube and social media) loves all art and craft, nature and the garden, hangin’ with her husband, frolicking with the dogs, good food, occasional pretty drinks, and all things that keep her PRESENT. She currently designs for Sizzix, Hampton Art, Scraps of Darkness kit club, PaperHaus Magazine, and will be guesting with Donna Salazar Designs in September. She has been published in The Stamper’s Sampler, Scrap 365, PaperHaus Magazine, and Papercrafts Magazine. She is very excited to join the talent on the Core’dinations 2013 team and looks forward to sharing many inspirations and techniques with you!
I’m so very excited to meet all you fellow Core fans today!  My name is Vivian Keh and with this layout I’d like to share with you a few things about me!

I go completely bonkers about nature and the garden, hence my nickname on various social media platforms – Contadina K. The pooches and I are happiest when we are hangin’ out in the garden.  And when inspiration in the craft studio lags, all I need to do is step out back and stroll around.

While growing up, I dreamed about having a sizable plot in which to cultivate produce and flowers, and since recently moving to San Jose with my husband and our furry family, I’ve spent every free minute out in the yard, cultivating the mediocre the soil, and starting a bunch of plants from seed.  These are just a few plants that are currently growing in the back.  I’m hoping that in a few years, we’ll be able to harvest most of our produce from our own yard!
In this layout, I’ve dry embossed, die-cut, sanded, and distressed some vibrant shades of Core to create interest, and once it was all done, I said to myself, “Oh my word!  It’s nearly flat!”  My papercrafted projects are most often very dimensional.  That is one of the great characteristics of Core – you can create so much texture so easily and still have an easily mailable card or an easily sleeved layout.
My love of papercraft was born at the tail end of a career teaching adults ESL in Los Angeles.  At the time, I couldn’t afford to buy a decent gift for a dear friend.  So I made her a card.  I was surprised to see how deeply happy it made her, and I know she carried that card with her for months so she could look at it when she needed a pick me up.  That is when my love of cardmaking was born.  My interest in cards has drawn me into layouts, art journaling, and a profound love of mixed media.  Please stop by my blog to see more of my art and craft at:

This year on the Design Team, I’m looking forward to working with even more of the beautiful hues and rich textures of Core’dinations ColorCore Cardstock.  Nothing would make me happier than being able to inspire you along the way!

Cards, Cards, and a layout!

Creating with the Tim Holtz Kraft Core Shattered line is SO MUCH fun! This card was just perfect for using this line.   Did you know that all the Kraft Core lines Core’dinate? Design Team Member Debbie Standard embossed the Core shattered and lightly sanded it so that it would show both the Shattered as well as the embossed image.

Supply List:
Tim Holtz Kraft Core Shattered
Core EssentialsNeutrals 6×6
Sand it Gadget
Dust Buddy
Cuttlebug
Lifestyle Crafts Folder
American Crafts sticker
Creative Charms flowers
Queen & Co. Pearls

Debbie made this card using some of the Tim Holtz Shattered collection in the 6 X 6.  This time she didn’t emboss it just left it as is.  Then she layered it over Core Essentials Brights cardstock and stamped on the back of the white for the top of the card.

And a layout using some BasicGrey Core Impressions: According to Debbie, she loves creating  layouts using some of the Core Impressions as the background .  Sanded and dusted it creates such a great palette to use on your page.

Sand It Gadget
Dust Buddy
Prima Flowers

Tuesday’s Tip comes from Design Team Member Lydia Jackson. Lydia pretty much created an entire baby album with Bella and Core. What is so great about this is that it EASY! You have all of your coordinating Bella Blvd embellishments, papers, and alphas AND now you know that our Core Cardstock matches PERFECTLY! I don’t know about  you, but having all of that at my fingertips makes creating a unified (and super cute) baby album EASY! Not to mention I have always LOVED Bella Blvd chipboard shapes and pieces.

Let’s check out what Lydia did…she created her own patchwork background with different pieces of Core Essentials and different embossed patterns. Don’t forget to print right on that Core! Gosh this baby boy line is SO CUTE.

And another layout for this super cute baby boy album…Lydia used some Fancy Pants Core Impressions along with some Core Essentials and Core Tags. LOVE that piece of tape right over the photo.

And next up we have a Tuesday Tutorial for you from Design Team Member Andrea Amu using the very cool Designer Tape from Bella Blvd that we have all fallen deeply and passionately in love with here at Core. She cut it on her Cricut…SO COOL!  Here is a little bit about this project in her own words, “I added a strip of the yellow chevron designer tape from Bella Blvd to a scrap of yellow Brights Core Essentials and I used my Cricut to diecut 1/2″ alphas (Lyrical Letters Cricut cart – Jack Sprat font).   I also folded some of the paper tape into tabs and used them on the neck of the giraffe diecut which was cut from some yellow WhiteWash Core.  I embossed the giraffe (Cricut New Arrival cart – cut at 6″) with a Sizzix animal print folder, sanded the spots and went in and added some extra brown tones with a Ranger ink pad and the Ranger blending tool.”

LOVE it! What do you think?

The blending looks so great on the giraffe. By embossing, then sanding and then adding the ink really makes it look realistic and adds another layer of depth. But remember…emboss, sand and THEN ink.
