Happy New Year Cards

December 27, 2013 by

Wishing someone a Happy New Year is such a great way to kick off the year! Positive thoughts for a positive start to the new year!

Kate here today to share two bright and happy New Year’s cards I made using Core’dination Cardstock.

Kicking it off with a BRIGHT card.  The 4.5″ x 6″ card base and all brightly colored layers were made from the Core Essentials Bright Collection.  I embossed the yellow layer with a chevron embossing folder by Darice.  While embossing, I placed a cardstock shim on top of the plate sandwich. When I ran  this through my Big Shot, the embossing cut through the paper just where the shim was placed.
Supplies:
Darice Chevron Embossing Folder
Die-namics Alpha Dies
Xyron Adhesives
This picture perfect card whipped up in no time at all!  The 4.5″ x 6″ card base is Core’dinations Tulip Jillian Dot. I sanded the little dots with my Sand It Gadget.  The sentiment is printed on a scrap piece of Core’dinations Cardstock (pretty sure it is in the Neutral Collection).  Once printed, I tore the paper and added a bit of Chalking Ink to match the Tulip colored base.
Supplies:
Core’dinations Jillian Dot Collection
Core’dinations 6″x 6″ Glitter Silk Collection
Core’dinations Smooth Stamping Paper
Unity Stamp Co.
Memento Ink
Quick Quotes Chalking Ink

Wishing you all a Happy and Healthy New Year! ~Kate

Some More Father’s Day inspiration…

June 13, 2013 by

Hi Everyone!  Ellen here today with a Father’s Day card I made…well two of them.  And they are very different!  I was inspired this week by two different things.

First up, I was working with some Couture Creations dies and after my cut I realized unfortunately that my sandwich was wrong. So it didn’t cut all the way through. That happens to me from time to time and I just put them in my recycle bin. WEll not this this time! I thought…I can do something with that…and I did! You have to check out their Doily dies..they are AWESOME! And versatile….

There was no way I could cut this with craft knife because it was too detailed so I grabbed my Sand it Gadget and I sanded and sanded and sanded a bit more and the “etched” image created starts to pop off the card.  It’s subtle but I think it works AND I saved some scraps ;)

And next up I was in my inbox and the daily RSS feed from Scrapbook & Cards Today was there and I found this treat: Folded Shirt Card for Father’s Day!

Aly Dosdal from the WRMK Design Team originally did the video so I had to try it out because I just KNEW that Core w0uld be awesome with this tutorial. I used Core Essentials for the shirt, Chocolate Box for the tie and background and a David Tutera Celebrate card for the base. I cannot get enough of these square cards!   For the original video check out the WRMK blog .

I gotta tell you…I did it on the FIRST try so it wasn’t that hard. You will need your Scor-Pal or scoring tool of some sort.

And  here is the inside of the card. You can open it up and put something in there.

Now….on to the good stuff…..
Today we are saying hello  to Clare Buswell!
Here is a little bit about Clare:

Hi! My name is Clare Buswell. I live in the south-west of Ireland in the countryside with Niall and our lovely 5 year old daughter Isabelle.

I’ve always been creative in some form or another, I studied graphic design at art college. I only discovered the whole world of paper-crafting after the birth of my daughter when I had little time but longed to be creative again. Card-making was the perfect answer for me and is now my passion. I also really love to make 3D paper projects. I love stamping, quilling and making my own embellishments, especially paper flowers! I love trying out different techniques and coming up with my own. I also love to paint with acrylics and watercolors.

I’ve been lucky enough to have my work published in Paper Crafts, CARDS and CardMaker magazines in the US and I design regularly for Cardmaking and Papercraft Magazine in the UK.

When I’m not paper-crafting I love to spend my time gardening, baking and with my family.

I’m really excited to be part of the Core’dinations ColorCore Cardstock design team!

If you have been to Clare’s blog you will notice she isn’t a layout girl…her cards are incredible so she did her signature paper ruffles for us today! You will see more of this gorgeous, handmade technique in the future and if you want to learn how to do it yourself, check out Clare’s blog HERE.
You can get some really realistic looking paper ruffles using this simple technique. Once you get the hang of it you can apply your paper ruffles to your cards and layouts in lots of different ways.  Here is how she does it:
To make the ruffles I cut strips of Core’dinations cardstock approx 1 1/2″ deep, mist the back of the cardstock with water, leave for a minute and the cardstock becomes malleable and easy to form into ruffles. Just be careful not to wet it too much! Once you’ve shaped your ruffles, leave to dry and apply to your projects with double sided tape. For a detailed tutorial you can visit my blog.
For my first card I went for an ombre effect and layered tones of blue and turquoise ruffles on my card. When layering the ruffles always start at the bottom. You can enhance the edges of the ruffles by gently rubbing them with your Sand It Gadget for some added texture.
Swoooooooooooooon!
