Core Tags make great decorative elements for your layouts. They come in all colors and sizes and are easy to run through your embossing machine. If you don’t fee comfortable taking out the metal gromments, just line the tags up so that part is sticking out of your embossing folder.
I was initially really hesitant about the silver grummets, not wanting them to get smooshed from the pressures of the rollers however it wasn’t a problem! The depth of the embossing folder is akin to that of the grummet so it’s a non-issue (so long as you have the grummet outside the embossing folder!).
Check out how the embossed tags up top compliment the embossed edge tags on the bottom!
I created a simple bag tag for these cute mini-bags from Darice. Here’s how you can create this removable tag:
Step 1. Crimp a large Core’dinations Sandable Core Tag using a Fiskars Crimper.
Step 2. Punch a 1″ circle in the middle of a small Core’dinations Sandable Core Tag. I used a CM Circle Punch and trim the bottom of the tag for a banner effect.
Step 3. Sand and dust both tags.
Step 4. Stamp your sentiment on a 1.25″ x 1.25″ inch piece of Core’dinations Core Basic 110lb Smooth Cardstock and place behind the circle on the small CoreTag.
Step 5. Layer and adhere the tags together.
Step 6. Punch holes in the bag where the grommets to match up with the holes on the layered tags. Now tie the tags onto the bag with some tulle. To add this tag to card, just untie the tags from the gift bag and attach to a card base.
The same tag attached onto a card:
Super cute idea, isn’t it?
Here is another example of how I reused a gift bag tag for a card…
Core Tip: When using two CoreTags layered on top of each other (like in my Thank You Tag above), just pop out the grommets from both tags before layering and then add just put one of the grommets back in. These grommets remove easily!
The card base is a standard A2 cardbase, my favorite size, made from Core’dinations Distress Collection. Of course, I distressed the edges a bit with my Sand It Gadget!
The background is an embossed piece of Core’dinations Kraft-Core. I sanded the embossed image down quite a bit and ran my green ink over the embossed/sanded image, leaving some of the Kraft-Core peeking through.
To create my sentiment, I trimmed up a Smooth CoreTag to fit in the corner. I always save the trimmed off part of my CoreTags to use on other projects.
Tip of the day: Core’dinations Cardstock makes a sturdy base for stickers. On my card, I adhered the cute airplane sticker to a sanded piece of the same base cardstock and then trimmed around the sticker.

Make card from 110lb Smooth White Core. Emboss No.10 Cardstock from Tim Holtz Kraft-Core Nostalgic Collection to cover card front, sand using Sand-It Gadget and wipe with Dust Buddy. Adhere to card. Sand edges of Core Tags Canvas Textured Tags Brights Tag, trim rectangle of 110lb White Smooth Core’dinations Cardstock to fit inside. Repeat stamp text using Ripe Persimmon Distress Ink, ink edges with Brushed Corduroy, adhere to tag. Cut three pieces of twill ribbon, plait and thread through tag. Attach tag to card. Stamp ship onto cardstock, cut out and ink edges with Brushed Corduroy Distress Ink, adhere to tag using foam pads. Stamp sentiment onto 110lb Smooth White Core, ink edges with Brushed Corduroy and attach to card. Adhere buttons, to finish.
1) The white card base is 4.5″ x 6″ of Core’dinations Neutral Snowflake with the top right and bottom left corners rounded.
2) I embossed the Core’dinations Whitewash background (4.25″ x 5.75″) with a Couture Creations Embossing Folder.
3) The embossed piece was then sanded with Core’dinations Sand It Gadget and dusted with the Dust Buddy to let the blue core show through.
4) Then, I printed my sentiment on Core’dinations Smooth Oval Tags.
***Tip: When using Core Tags in your printer, it is best to print the sentiment out on a piece of paper first to make sure that your sentiment will fit on your tag. Then attach your Core Tag with semi-permanant adhesive over the already printed sentiment and print the sentiment again. Always perfect placement when done this way!
5) Colorful ribbon was then added to the printed tag was glued with ZapDots 1/3 up from the bottom of the card.
6) The colorful die cut buttons are made from scraps of Core’dinations Cardstock. Once cut, I ran them through my Xyron X Sticker Maker and sanded/dusted them before adding them to the embossed circles.
7) Give the card to a friend and you are sure to make them smile!
