Hi Core Fans!   It’s Joann and today I am excited to share with you a cute piece of wall art that also utilizes the new Party Mixers Rosettes.  I saw a similar piece of wall art at one of my local home decor stores and used the inspiration to create my own version!

To make this project follow these steps.

Step 1.  Start by cutting out 2 frames in White and a third frame out of chipboard for some extra strength.

Joann-Larkin-I-Heart-You-Step1

Step 2.  Next, cut at least one outline out of White card stock.  I actually cut this 3 times.

Joann-Larkin-I-Heart-You-Step2

Step 3.  For the hearts, cut one heart with the frame out using Core Couture Glitter Cardstock and an additional 8 hearts using paper from the Core Essentials Darks Collection .  I also embossed the hearts to add more texture.

Tip: I apologize that I forgot to show this in my step by step photos but Core cardstock is the absolute best cardstock for embossing!  I like to “very lightly” spritz a little water on the paper before I emboss it.  This allows the fibers to relax and you will get a deeper, more defined emboss without the paper tearing!

Joann-Larkin-I-Heart-You-Step3

Step 4. Now it is time for the fun!  Glue the base pieces together and layer on the frame outlines.  After the glue has dried, I took 2 of the inside panels and embossed them before attaching.

Step 5. The letters were cut out separately using the Core 12×24 Adhesive Backed Glitter Paper.  Simply peel back the adhesive protector and apply to the face of the letters!  It’s just that easy :)

Joann-Larkin-I-Heart-You-Step5

Step 6.  The sentiments were made from Core “Love” Vellum Quotes & Titles layered on Core 12×24 Adhesive Backed Glitter Paper and die cut with a Spellbinders die.

Joann-Larkin-I-Heart-You-Step6

Step 7.  Finish the last panel (you can use anything you desire here but I decided to use the Heartfelt Creations “Embrace Time Background Cling Stamp Set.

Joann-Larkin-I-Heart-You-Step7

Step 8.  Assemble the largest rosette by following the package directions.  This Rosette is 14″ in diameter and can be assembled in about a minute.  The glue is already applied.  All that needs to be done is remove the protective cover for the glue strip, fasten the 2 pieces together and then using the screws and round centers (included), finish the Rosette off.

Step 9.  Fasten the pre-assembled wall art to the rosette using hot glue and finish decorating as desired.  Once complete, find a lovely place in your home to hang this up and watch the reactions of everyone that sees it!

Scrapbook Paper Party Utensil Holders

Whenever it’s time for another birthday party (or any occasion, really) I have to admit I’m torn between keeping it easy and making things beautiful.  And no matter which way I choose, I want it to be easy on the budget, too!

Today’s solution is a great mix of everything – I’ll show you how you can turn scrapbook paper into simple and inexpensive party decor that doubles as something functional: a plastic utensil and napkin holder!  Leave one of these party pouches by each place setting, and guests will have everything they need.  You can even include party favors or game pieces for showers, and incorporate your theme colors and designs!  It’s the perfect way to dress up plastic tableware – which is a staple at big get-togethers.

Scrapbook-Paper-Party-Utentil-Holders-7

Scrapbook Paper Party Utensil Holders Supplies:

  • Core’dinations Core Essentials 12×12 sheets, in color(s) to match your party theme
  • Paper trimmer and/or scissors
  • Washi tape
  • Scoring board and bone folder
  • 4.25″ wide embossing folder, and embossing machine (mine is the Sizzix Big Shot, but there are several options out there for embossing)
  • Napkins and utensils

Scrapbook Paper Party Utensil HoldersStep 1.  Trim your paper into 3 equal vertical pieces 4″x12″.  You will be able to make 3 pouches per 12×12 sheet.

Scrapbook Paper Party Utensil HoldersStep 2.  Emboss one end of your paper.  Make sure the end of the paper is tucked into the “top” of your embossing folder if you’ve chosen a design that has a right-side-up like this Happy Birthday folder.

Scrapbook Paper Party Utensil HoldersStep 3.  Score your embossed paper at 5″.  Some of the design will be below the fold, and that’s okay.

Scrapbook Paper Party Utensil HoldersStep 4.  Fold along the score, and seal off the open edges with two 5″ strips of washi tape.

Scrapbook-Paper-Party-Utentil-Holders-5Step 5. Stuff each pouch with coordinating napkins and plastic flatware – and get ready to party!

Scrapbook-Paper-Party-Utentil-Holders-6It’s a simple touch that adds something special to the table, and guests will appreciate having everything they need all in one place.  Best of all – the whole thing is disposable, so cleanup is so easy!

Creating Layouts with School Colors

There are a lot of High School graduations going on right now and  Kate Nolan Denham has a great layout to share with us today using school colors. With such a variety of different colors and kinds of cardstock to choose from, Core’dinations Cardstock can be your go to paper for any occasion!
On this layout, Kate does a great job working around that issue we always find when using Core and embossing folders….”how do I only use a 5×7″ folder on a 12″ layout?” She balances it perfectly with a 5×7″ photo and then, of course, sands!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Kate here today with a graduation layout that sports school colors from Core’dinations Vintage Collection.  It is one of my favorite collections!
I did a lot of sanding with my Sand It Gadget.  I wanted the color core to really pop on the edges of the mats  where I embossed and scored.  It allowed me to add dimension without having to add more layers.
You can see how awesome the Core’dinations Color Core looks in this up close photo!
Bonus Saturday Post! Happy Turkey Day Cards
We have had so many great design ideas from our team this Thanksgiving that we have a bonus post for you this Saturday! Here’s a little bit about these projects from Tracy Gruber!
There is nothing like a good clean and simple card. First, stamp the leaves onto 3 different colors from the Core’dinations Darks Collection pack. Next, fussy cut them out, emboss them, sand them with the Sand It Gadget, and then attach them to the Core’dinations 110 lb. white card base. Use a Tombow 3D Foam Tabs to attach the yellow leaf. Finally, stamp the sentiment and attach a May Arts Natural twine bow.
Supplies:
-Coredinations Essentials – Darks
-Core’dinations 110 lb. White Card stock
-Dust Buddy
-Sand It Gadget
-The Alley Way Stamps “It’s Fall About You”
-Cuttlebug Swiss Dots Embossing Folder
-Tuxedo Black Memento Ink
-May Arts Natural Twine
-Tombow 3D Foam Tabs
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I love polka dots! I wanted to create a fall card with lots of polka dots and navy blue. First, punch some 1″ and 1 1/2″ circles from the Core’dinations Darks Collection pack using a Fiskars punch. Next, emboss, sand, and attach them to a white card front. The turkey is stamped on some Core’dinations 110 lb. white card stock (this is perfect for coloring with Copics!) and colored in with Copics. Finally, attach the turkey and the sentiment with Tombow 3D Foam Tabs.

Supplies:
-Core’dinations Darks Collection pack
-Core’dinations Neutrals Collection pack
-Core’dinations 110 lb. white card stock
-Cuttlebug Seeing Spots embossing folder
-Sand It Gadget
-Dust Buddy
-Tombow 3D Foam Tabs
-The Alley Way Stamps “It’s Fall About You”
-Tuxedo Black Memento Ink
-Copic Markers: R05, YR68, E25, Y15, B37
-Simon Says Stamp Speech Bubble dies
-Fiskars 1″ and 1 1/2″ circle punches

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Don’t you think that sanding on the turkey just adds so much texture and dimension? SO CUTE!
Do you have a turkey for your traditional Thanksgiving meal? We have both turkey and ham! Since I didn’t have a ham image on my Cricut, I had to settle with the turkey cut from the Simply Charmed Cricut cartridge. First, cut it at 2 3/4″ and emboss the light brown pieces with the Swiss Dots embossing folder. Then, sand them and the dark brown piece, since turkeys are not one perfect shade of brown ;) The “greenery” is Parsley Core’dinations card stock and the light blue “plate” is from the Core’dinations Essentials Pastels Pack. Next, use the gray card stock from the Core’dinations Essentials Neutrals pack and the orange piece from the Core’dinations Essentials Darks Pack. Finish the card by adding a May Arts Natural twine bow.
First up Designer Kate Noal Denham explains how she created this gorgeous card using Couture Creations Doily dies and embossing folder from the Sweet Dreams collection:
KateCoutureCreationsCard
Instructions:
1)  Create a 4.5″x 6″ card base out of a piece of Cream Core’dinations Cardstock.
2)  Emboss a 4.25 x 5.5 piece of Blueberry cardstock from Coredinations Chocolate Box Collection with Couture Creations embossing folder.
3)  Trim embossed cardstock to 4″ x 5.5.”
4)  Lightly sanded embossed image using the Sandit Gadget, so as the Blueberry color shows, and then clean the dust off using the Dust Buddy.
5)  Add VersaMark and sprinkle clear embossing powder over the entire 4″x5.5″ embossed paper.
6)  Heat embossing powder until a lovely sheen appears.
7)  Now add this piece of embossed Blueberry cardstock to the card base, leaving an even amount of matting on all sides.
8)  Die cut a piece of Rivulet from Core’dinations Vintage 6″x6″ Collection using  Couture Creations Doily Die.
And a close up of that fabulous sanding!!! :):):)
KateCoutureCreationsCard2
9)  Trim two sides of the die cut paper so that it is flush against the bottom right of the embossed paper on the card base.
10)  Before added the trimmed doily to the card, sand the edges a bit using the Sandit Gadget. Don’t forget to use the Dust Buddy!
11)  Add foam dots to the backside of the doily (I used Helmar Zapdots) and place on the bottom right of the embossed paper.
      12) Punch a circle out of the Cream cardstock used to create the base.
  13) Trim two edges of the circle so that it is flush with the doily.  Add to the doily.
  14) Cut a one inch banner out of some more Blueberry Chocolate Box Cardstock.  Sand it a bit.
  15) Stamp sentiment on banner and adhere stamped banner to the bottom third of the doily/circle.
  16) Add a few pearls around the outside of the circle.
  17) Give to someone for their birthday!
 I really enjoyed using Couture Creations products with Core’dinations Cardstock!  The embossing folders are really crisp and the embossing really stands out on all the Core’dinations Cardstock.  The doily die is incredibly intricate, yet it cut through the hearty Core’dinations Cardstock like butter.  I look forward to playing with these product again!  ~Kate
So…today! What do we have for you today?  First up we have some projects from Debbie Standard:
Debbie used loads of Core’dinations Core Essentials, Black Magic and Spotted Cardstock. Love those banner ribbons along the bottom in the May Arts ribbon? So pretty! Coutre Creations products are  Fresh and Fun embossging folders and the Fantasia Doily dies (these are gorgeous!!!!).
And Designer Mary Pat Siehl created a fresh winter card for us today as well using some Whitewash and doesn’t the sanding with the Couture Creations Super Powder Puff embossing folder look amazing!? And she accented it with some gemstones, too! Don’t forget about the Couture Creations double sided foam mounting tape…perfect for that dimension on the sentiment.
Here’s a little bit about this card from Mary Pat:
When I saw the embossing folder (Super Powder Puff) my Core brain immediately thought of the Whitewash collection.  I thought the two would be perfect together for a nice winter type card.  I embossed the cardstock and then lightly sanded it to bring out the beautiful blue color.  I then stamped my sentiment on matching cardstock and attached it to my card.  I wanted to add a bit of sparkle to the card so I added some sparkle twine and some huge bling gems.  I love the soft look.
And if you want to win some Core’dinations awesomeness here’s how:
