And since we are living in color today…we have some gorgeous creations from designer Kate Nolan Denham, too!

Bright & colorful is always a fun way to go when making birthday cards.  The card I am sharing today shows how easy it is to make a bright birthday card with several different Core’dinations Cardstock lines, not just the Brights Collection (which is pretty cool in itself).

To create my card, I started by embossing a Brights Core Tag.  These tags are textured and sandable! I then took a piece of the Whitewash Collection die the word “LIVE” out with my Cricut. After sanding this focal point down so the Core color shined through, I added the rest of my sentiment with stickers and brads.  The tag and sentiment were then added to a sanded background from the Vintage Collection and then the card base, which is in the Brights Collection.

And how about some Spotted on Dotted? Well..kind of! Kate mixes and matches our Spotted Carstock with some Cosmo Cricket Core Impressions! I am LOVING those arrows…

I love colors that are bold!  Today I have a layout in which the colors in the tags dictated what fantastic bold colors of Core’dinations Cardstock I used.  Throw in a bit of dotted texture and it was the perfect blend of bold and beautiful!  The bit of Black Magic and Neutral Core’dinations I used for this layout was just to balance the bold colors I used.

And do not forget to head over to the Xyron blog for MORE inspiration AND a giveaway! I heard a rumour that it might be a sticker maker?!??!?!

Designer Shaunte Wadley is up first with some mixing and matching of Tim Holtz Kraft Core Season Impressions, Kraft-Core and Fancy Pants Core Impressions. And see that super cool strip of pumpkins? Shante used her 2.5 Sticker maker so keep scrolling to check out easy it is to adhere that with Xyron tools.

How is easy is that???

It’s like magic…it’s sticky and NO MESS!

Here’s a close up of it finished with the die cut layers:

THEN after you sand with your Sand it Gadget, take your chalks and apply desired color for a really cool look! Not sure if you saw Friday’s post but Designer Kate Nolan Denham did that on her layout, too, but with some Black Magic..super cool!

And next up is Designer Vivian Keh working the Black Magic!  Just love how she chose Black Magic for her Thanksgiving card. For some step by step photos check out her blog HERE.

For this card, I used cardstock from our fantastic “Black Magic” Collection.  Since I started playing with this stuff a month or so ago, I literally have not been able to stop crafting with it.  The results are always interesting and unique.  I sanded both my dry embossed background and my paper punched leaves, following that by applying a little pigment ink over the raised areas in a variety of autumn leaf tones.  I used the Xyron 1.5 in Create-A-Sticker machine to adhere the leaves – totally nuts about this tool because it is incredibly fast and convenient for adhering tiny pieces, like die-cut alphas or these leaves, to papercrafted projects.  No sticky, messy, glue-y fingers!  I used the Xyron Mega Runner to adhere the card front to a slightly larger card base – nice strong hold.

And how amazing is this detail and all this color!? Very same concept as Shaunte using chalks but you can use ink, too!

Vivian Keh…a gorgeous mini AND a layout!

Hello, Core friends! Vivian Keh here with an accordion mini album that I made for one of my three closest high school friends, all of whom were able to visit me recently for an amazing reunion, just as we all hit the big Four Oh! I crafted this album to house small photos from our long weekend together, using a monochromatic palette, which is extra fun with all the lovely tones and tints of cardstock that Core’dinations has available!

Check out the Core Essentials part of the website for color families so you can create your very own monochromatic look like this!

There’s some die-cutting, dry embossing, stamping, and of course my current favorite – tearing!

Next up a layout….. How cool are those torn squares?!?!

Vivian Keh with a layout that’s about as clean as I go – lots of white space, featuring graphic design elements created entirely with torn Core and paper punched blossoms from Marvy Uchida.  I sanded the blossoms to reveal the embossing that simultaneously occurs when you punch these pretties.  I must say, this paper punch was a pleasure to handle, cutting cleanly and embossing with a single, very easy press of the palm.

And yeah for the cool embossed punches from Marvy Uchida!!!  How cool are those torn squares?  First layer the torn paper on some scrap paper and adhere.  Then cut out any shape you like and you have your very own embellishment!

Fabulous Friday

…..with Vivian Keh!

In order to create the luxurious feeling in this card project, I turned to the beautiful pearlescent hues of our Gemstones collection.  While the sheen on the die-cut rosebuds showcases the elegance of the Gemstones cardstock as is, I dry embossed a bit of Sapphire colored cardstock, sanded  and distressed the raised surfaces with Distress Ink to infuse my card with a sense of nostalgia.

Ah…you can never have too many close-ups, right? Here is a shot of the inking on the embossed Gemstones cardstock.

Gemstones does NOT have a sandable finish like our Specialty collections so when you sand, you will lose the sheen. This is a GREAT alternative…sand it so you loose the smooth finish and your ink will be more intense.

Let’s say Hello to….Gail Linder!

Only TWO days left of our Design Team introductions! Time flies, doesn’t it?

Before we get started today, we wanted to let you know about ANOTHER fun week next week filled with MORE inspiration, MORE fun and MORE giveaways!!!  So don’t go far. If you love Core, stamps and ribbon come back Monday.

Today we are introducing Gail Linder!

My name is Gail Lindner and I live in sunny Queensland, Australia. I have a wonderful, hardworking husband, a beautiful (and energetic) 5 year old daughter and gorgeous 20 month old baby boy.I’ve been scrapbooking for over 12 years now and I can’t imagine my life without it! I started scrapbooking in 1999 on a trip to the USA. I picked up a scrapbooking magazine and the rest is history! I immediately knew it was the hobby for me as it encompasses everything I love – memories, photos, memorabilia and (let’s face it) pretty things! I’m mostly inspired by my photos and the stories I want to tell. I love the idea of conveying my thoughts and experiences in my scrapbooking for my daughter to read in the future. I like to keep my layouts fairly uncluttered and balanced, with the photos the main focus. My style includes lots of distressing, inking, layering and sewing. Apart from scrapbooking I enjoy blogging, organising and shopping (all related to scrapbooking of course!)

Check out her blog here for more fabulous inspiration!

Now, let’s chat about this layout for a second…see those stripes?  NOT patterned paper. Nope..those are sanded strips of Black Magic! How cool is that?   Here is a little bit about this layout from Gail:

The idea for my layout came from the “currently” lists that I’ve seen floating around the internet. I recently celebrated my birthday and took a self portrait with my iphone on that day so I thought the two tied together nicely!
I wanted quite a bold, look for my layout and of course I wanted to incorporate my favourite colors! I ended up creating my own background by cutting strips of the black cardstock and adhering them to my white background, in diagonal stripes. I love that by sanding the edges of the black strips they seemed to “blend” into the background a bit more. I was then able to add accents in watermelon pink, aqua and that gorgeous chartreuse green!
For a fun photo mat, I used my Scor-Pal to score a simple border around the cardstock mat that my photo was layered on. I was aiming for a polaroid-type feel!
When I was almost finished my layout, I thought it was looking a bit flat so at the last minute I tucked a white core tag in behind the photo mat and tied a big ribbon bow. Finishes it off nicely!
I think I’m addicted to creating striped backgrounds with cardstock now!

Those stripes in the Black Magic are brilliant!
