I mean….how INCREDIBLE IS THIS? Clare Buswell created a gorgeous journal notebook using this faux-leather technique she learned along her crafting journing. Gorgeous!
Trim a 12×12 sheet of Kraft Core Nostalgic Collection No.20 slightly larger than the size of notebook you want to make, fill a spray bottle with 1 part glycerin to 16 parts water, shake and spray the sheet of Core on both sides, rubbing the surface gently with your fingertips. Scrunch the sheet up into a ball, flatten out and spray and scrunch again. Flatten out, emboss with your chosen embossing folder and leave to dry. The glycerin and water mix makes the cardstock more flexible like leather. Sand the embossed surface with the Sand-It Gadget and wipe with a Dust Buddy. Trim to size and round corners. Using Distress inks and a blending tool ink the surface to highlight the embossing and edges.
NOTE: Here’s the video tutorial I used for the Faux Leather technique and here’s the video tutorial for the page inserts/bookbinding.
I used another sheet of Tim Holtz Kraft Core Nostalgic Collection No.11 for the inside of the notebook cover and repeated the same process as before. Once dry I glued the two sheets together to make the cover. I added a layer of satin varnish to the outside of the cover and left to dry. The second video gives step by step instructions on how to make the page inserts and stitch them in place. I used Vanilla cream Core for the inserts, rounded the corners and stitched them using linen thread. I added some brads to the cover and tied the notebook closed with some leather cord, to finish.
