Black Magic Birthday Card Supplies:

Step 1.   Begin by sanding the Black Magic cardstock first. It’s important you sand BEFORE you stamp and wipe dust with Dust Buddy. Removing excess sand will help the clear ink pad stamp clearly to ensure a crisp image when you emboss.

Step 2. Emboss with Tim Holtz & Ranger heat embossing powder. I like to use my scraps because sometimes it takes a few tries to get a good image.

Step 3. Add layers of Glitter Silk and more Black Magic along with embellishments.

Quick and easy Thank You cards with Gail Lindner

Hi Everyone! Gail Lindner here…. I had a simple design in mind using ONLY Core’dinations cardstock and looked to Pinterest for some fun color combinations! I came up with four combinatons and made several of each in one big creating session!

Thanks-Cards-1

I cut the sentiment “Thanks” out using my Silhouette Cameo but wanted it to stand out from the background. I saw the trick of cutting out several and layering them during some blog hopping and it really was a quick way of adding dimension that you can see in the following close up photo.

Thanks-Cards-2

Because the writing is quite detailed and fine, using pop dots would not only be time consuming but would also not be sturdy enough. I simply cut multiple words out of a full sheet of white cardstock and ended up adhering four layers to give it enough dimension.

I’ve also used techniques such as embossing, sanding, distressing and folding to add interest and dimension.

Thanks-Cards-3

Thanks-Cards-4

It sure feels good to have a nice collection of thank you cards handy again!

It’s Gail here again!  I’m putting some creative energy to work to create some layouts and things for our sweet baby #3. Here’s a layout documenting some thoughts on late pregnancy, using one of my favourite color combinations of Core cardstock!

Almost-wm

For this layout, I started with the idea of placing different colored squares of Core’dinations cardstock over my background, varying the size and texture of each one.

I started by just cutting some squares in various sizes and playing with the placement. You can see I’ve created a few visual triangles to balance the layout – mainly with the three squares of the navy and light pink cardstock.

Almost-cu1-wm

You can see a couple of fun embossing folders that I’ve used on the squares! As usual, a quick sand to reveal the core brings them to life!

Almost-cu2-wm

For the title and accents on my layout, I put my Silhouette Cameo cutter to good use and cut a variety of hearts and arrows in the same colours as the squares and scattered them, raising some on pop dots.

My title was also cut with the Cameo using my favorite font: Thirsty Script. You’ll find it works wonderfully with the Core cardstock!

Vivian Keh…a gorgeous mini AND a layout!

Hello, Core friends! Vivian Keh here with an accordion mini album that I made for one of my three closest high school friends, all of whom were able to visit me recently for an amazing reunion, just as we all hit the big Four Oh! I crafted this album to house small photos from our long weekend together, using a monochromatic palette, which is extra fun with all the lovely tones and tints of cardstock that Core’dinations has available!

Check out the Core Essentials part of the website for color families so you can create your very own monochromatic look like this!

There’s some die-cutting, dry embossing, stamping, and of course my current favorite – tearing!

Next up a layout….. How cool are those torn squares?!?!

Vivian Keh with a layout that’s about as clean as I go – lots of white space, featuring graphic design elements created entirely with torn Core and paper punched blossoms from Marvy Uchida.  I sanded the blossoms to reveal the embossing that simultaneously occurs when you punch these pretties.  I must say, this paper punch was a pleasure to handle, cutting cleanly and embossing with a single, very easy press of the palm.

And yeah for the cool embossed punches from Marvy Uchida!!!  How cool are those torn squares?  First layer the torn paper on some scrap paper and adhere.  Then cut out any shape you like and you have your very own embellishment!

Stepping outside your comfort zone with Jennifer Edwardson

Today we have some layouts from Design Team Member Jennifer Edwardson! She is working some circles and tags for you today so we hope you enjoy!
This was a step outside of the box layout for me.  I am very linear in my designing and usually shy away from circles since I can’t seem to keep them in a straight line ;))  I have been playing around with my Silhouette lately and found this super cute circle template so I cut it to 11 x 11″ using a piece of ‘Shattered’ cardstock.

jennifer edwardson - June 2a
I really wanted to use it twice on this layout so I layed it underneath my Kraft Core base and lightly sanded over top to have the image come through on top.  I added my photo first and then started embellishing around it …… I took the circle template and carefully cut it into several pieces and adhered them around the photo slightly overlapping in spots and laying off the edge of the layout in others.

jennifer edwardson - June 2b jennifer edwardson - June 2c
To add some more color I chose 4 pieces from the Tim Holtz & Ranger Distress Collection and punched a couple sizes of circles out.  I ran them through my Big Shot using a spotted embossing template and lightly sanded them to make the dots pop !!  I raised all these circles around the layout to appear like I am ‘juggling’ lots of balls in the air …. (read the journaling)

AND how about some Core Tags?  If you come around our blog a lot then you know how much we love love love  Core Tags! They come with a metal grommet and are perfect for any paper crafter….scrabookers…cardmakers…we all love them and Jennifer has a layout that just rocks them!
jennifer edwardson - June 1a
Over the years I’ve seen adorable tag projects but have never takent the time to create one myself …. Until I got these fantastic Core’dinations tags – LOVE them !!!
jennifer edwardson - June 1d

Of course like many of you I’m sure, I tend to take an absolute TON of pics of my kids and the stack I have of Alexander’s 1st soccer camp from a few summers back was crazy !!  Lots of them were taken from quite far away but the expressions on his face and his actions were so cute I wanted to capture them all but needed to crop the photos small to really focus on him.

jennifer edwardson - June 1c
I started with a Spotted Jillian Dot base in French Roast and sanded off the top to show my fave big dots underneath.  I chose 4 colors in 2 sizes of tags to emboss and ran them through my Big Shot with different  Darice  embossing folders (LOVE the clouds) …..
 jennifer edwardson - June 1b
I adhere them to the outside edges of the base and then strung natural colored twine through the eyelets and tied them together …..

I cropped my photos and lightly sanded the edges to give me a nice white border and then rasied them onto 6 of the tags using 3D foam.  I typed my journaling onto Snowflake cardstock and trimmed it to fit throughout the layout ….. All that was left was to add a title with some mini alphas !!!
