We’re all torn up over Core’dinations!

Aren’t you? But of course in a good way! Today we have some projects from Designer Vivian Keh. This first card is so cool! It takes paper tearing to an entirely new level. And Vivian mixes and matched all  kinds of Core…some Spotted, Core Essentials and Vintage.

Hello, friends!  Vivian Keh on the Core blog today with a happy card using cardstocks from a number of different Core’dinations collections.  I’ve been having so much fun simply tearing our lovely color core cardstock for fast texture in papercrafted projects!  I tore several strips of Core for the right side of my card and tucked a simple sleeve behind the torn pieces to house a cute die-cut tag which slides out. Just about all the elements were sanded because I am in love the distressed result and how beautifully sanding brings out Core edges and embossing.

And who is ready for a layout?

For my base, I sanded a sheet of this wonderful Coconut Cream Woodgrain cardstock that we carry – I love the organic patterns and the versatile creamy color. For the embellishment, I relied heavily on my beloved paper punches.  The photo was backed with a piece of Core that I dry embossed and then fashioned into an easy folder.  I added a cute tab that I had die cut and embellished with a heart-shaped button. Simple journaling in the bottom left corner, and more detailed journaling hidden inside the folder.
Thanks to my punches, this layout came together quickly, which was very exciting for this typically slowpoke scrapper.

We are here with our Summer Brights Challenge!

Every month we challenge our designers to try new things. It might be a collection pack, techniques…something different just to get those creative juices flowing.  So for July, we challenged our designers to use the Brights Collection pack and to do some fussy cutting for some added interest.

The Brights collection pack is the PERFECT color palette for all your summer layouts and projects! Don’t be afraid of those bright colors..embrace them!

First up we have Designer Shaunte Wadley. She created a card trio for us today using Brights, David Tutera Celebrate Cardmaking system, Jenni Bowlin Core Impressions, Core Couture, & Vintage Cardstock.

And I love how Designer Vivian Keh used the purples in this layout. The possiblities are endless with what you can do with a bright color palette. Add a op of yellow and that gorgeous fussy cutting of her stamps and you have the perfect layout!

And nothing is cuter than a swimming doggie :) Blues and yellows are the perfect summer colors!

Don’t want to stamp on the textured side?  Flip it over!

And Suzanna Lee created a layout focusing on  the primary colors found in the Brights Collection pack.   And, not to mention, this yogurt place is awesome! You pick your own ice cream and toppings and then they weigh it for you. You gotta be careful though….it adds up! LOL!  Tone on tone embossing and die cuts with jsut the perfect touch of sanding. LOVE IT!

Designing 8.5×11″ layouts with Suzanna Lee

Who loves 8.5×11″ layouts?  I DO I DO!  First up we have THE COOLEST layout from Designer Suzanna Lee!  I know I am going to try this for sure. She has a GREAT Tip for you today for our Tuesday Tip of the week.
Using embossed Core for a background is one of my favorite things to do with Core. It adds so much texture and visual interest to a layout. As I don’t have a larger die cut machine to run my folders through, I cut the paper then  run each half of the paper through my Big Shot. You can barely tell that it’s a sheet of paper cut into two pieces! The tone on tone chevrons create an interesting subtle background.

And another layout with a much different color palette.  EEK! I love how Suzanna created the flab/banner at the top with the Jenni Bowlin Mini Calendar piece!  Is there any other company out there that has products like this that allow you the creativity to create such cool, one of a kind embellishments???
When pondering what to use for my layouts, I typically grab my colors from the colors in the picture. This picture of the Centre Pompidou in Paris, France was taken in panoramic mode with my iPhone. It has a hints of red from the underside of the escalators that I wanted to make stand out a little bit so I chose the similar hues in both pre-embossed and “plain” cardstock. There is nothing plain about Core however!! The Kraft Core that I used to cut the title tied together the browns and reds perfectly!

First up Designer Kate Noal Denham explains how she created this gorgeous card using Couture Creations Doily dies and embossing folder from the Sweet Dreams collection:

KateCoutureCreationsCard

Instructions:

1)  Create a 4.5″x 6″ card base out of a piece of Cream Core’dinations Cardstock.

2)  Emboss a 4.25 x 5.5 piece of Blueberry cardstock from Coredinations Chocolate Box Collection with Couture Creations embossing folder.

3)  Trim embossed cardstock to 4″ x 5.5.”

4)  Lightly sanded embossed image using the Sandit Gadget, so as the Blueberry color shows, and then clean the dust off using the Dust Buddy.

5)  Add VersaMark and sprinkle clear embossing powder over the entire 4″x5.5″ embossed paper.

6)  Heat embossing powder until a lovely sheen appears.

7)  Now add this piece of embossed Blueberry cardstock to the card base, leaving an even amount of matting on all sides.

8)  Die cut a piece of Rivulet from Core’dinations Vintage 6″x6″ Collection using  Couture Creations Doily Die.

And a close up of that fabulous sanding!!! :) :):)

KateCoutureCreationsCard2

9)  Trim two sides of the die cut paper so that it is flush against the bottom right of the embossed paper on the card base.

10)  Before added the trimmed doily to the card, sand the edges a bit using the Sandit Gadget. Don’t forget to use the Dust Buddy!

11)  Add foam dots to the backside of the doily (I used Helmar Zapdots) and place on the bottom right of the embossed paper.

      12) Punch a circle out of the Cream cardstock used to create the base.

  13) Trim two edges of the circle so that it is flush with the doily.  Add to the doily.

  14) Cut a one inch banner out of some more Blueberry Chocolate Box Cardstock.  Sand it a bit.

  15) Stamp sentiment on banner and adhere stamped banner to the bottom third of the doily/circle.

  16) Add a few pearls around the outside of the circle.

  17) Give to someone for their birthday!

I really enjoyed using Couture Creations products with Core’dinations Cardstock!  The embossing folders are really crisp and the embossing really stands out on all the Core’dinations Cardstock.  The doily die is incredibly intricate, yet it cut through the hearty Core’dinations Cardstock like butter.  I look forward to playing with these product again!  ~Kate

Couture Creations day TWO!

We are here having fun this week with Couture Creations. It’s no secret that Core’dinations ColorCore Cardstock looks fabulous with dies and embossing folder especially when you sand, sand, sand!  Couture Creations is  an Australian owneda & loved brand, Couture Creations is the culmination of 20 years experience in the scrapbooking industry. From its final inception in 2010, Couture Creations has been devoted to producing expertly designed, high quality products overseen by veteran designers & crafters for a result that is both simple and elegant.

Here is a sneak of what is going on over there today.  Please keep in mind we are in two different time zones so in case we are off on our times bit please forgive us.   We are getting our coffee ready when they are getting ready for bed.

We have some gorgeous projects for you today! Three very different takes on what you can do with Core’dinations and Couture Creations projects.  Mixed Media and a CAS card…something for everyone.

First up Designer Ava Gavloski. She is the queen of texture! She always is inspired by life and created this mixed media canvas for us today. Here is a little bit about this project from Ava….Recently, I visited the Royal Botanical Gardens in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada ( www.rbg.ca).  That visit inspired me to create my Core’dinations Couture Creations canvas.    There is a plant at the rock garden  called a Helleborus that likes the shade and the young leaves of the plant look like a pale mint green flower which eventually become the leaves of the plant.

ava couture full

I folded tissue paper making  a stack of 4 sheets for each of the 3 flowers die cutting with  the Couture Creations Doily die.  Keeping the tissue paper stacked together after removing from the die, fold the flower in half and half again and hot glue the edges as you shape the doily flower.  Spray with your favorite re-inker/water mixture  and dry.

ava couture tranquility

And a close up of that gorgeous Fantasia Doily Die from Couture Creations:

ava couture transide

Then the fun part of this project was selecting the various green co-ordinating colors from the Core’dinations collections that harmonize with each other.  Core’dinations collections sing in harmony on this organic canvas.

Once the color tones were selected the Couture Creations Embossing folders were perfect for this organic rock garden inspired canvas.  Emboss, sand and tear the Core’dinations embossed papers and layer onto your canvas.  Apply the Gel medium to hold all the elements in place and sprinkle with the beads and sequins while the gel is still wet. Love the grass chipboard pieces by ScrapMatts.
It’s all about texture…
