Core’dinations

And Today we have a project for from Designer Jennifer Edwardson:

I have been a HUGE Tombow adhesive fan for a very long time, so naturally I was excited to show off my love of this glue for the Core’dinations / Tombow Blog Hop !!
One of my fave Tombow adhesives is the Glue Pen.  It truly is the best for adhereing tiny little pieces without having any excess glue sneak out the sides :))

I started this card using a piece of Core’dinations cardstock from the Tim Holtz Kraft-Core Nostalgic Collection (No. 28 – LOVE the kraft core) …… I cut a 12 x 12″ sheet down to 4 1/4 x 8 1/2 and then folded it in half to open like a tent.  I then put the front of the card base into the Darice Woodgrain embossing folder and ran it through my Big Shot.  I lightly sanded off the top layer and got a super effect for the front of the card

Using several different pieces of cardstock from the 6 x 6″ pkgs, I cut the branch, owls and hearts using my Silhouette.  Because this cutting tool is so precise, you can get teeny tiny little pieces of cardstock.  This is why I love the Tombow Glue Pen.  It was so easy for me to ‘draw’ my glue onto the back of all these little bits and they adhered perfectly where I wanted them …..

To finish it off I adhered a sentiment sticker from the David Tutera Celebrate Card Making system using 3D foam ….. Too cute !!

And check out these tiny pieces…you DEFINITELY need a tool like the Tombow Glue pen to get in those details and not make a mess.

Summer Challenge: Brights Collection Pack

July 29, 2013 by
Filed under Core Blog, May Arts Ribbon, Provocraft

Every month we challenge our designers to try new things. It might be a collection pack, techniques…something different just to get those creative juices flowing.  So for July, we challenged our designers to use the Brights Collection pack and to do some fussy cutting for some added interest. Cut those stamps…cut those embossed images…you name it the sky is the limit!

The Brights collection pack is the PERFECT color palette for all your summer layouts and projects! Don’t be afraid of those bright colors..embrace them!

First up we have a tutorial from Designer Kate Nolan-Denham on how she cut out some stamped images from her Brights Cardstock. This is a super easy way to create your own embellishments, don’t you think?

KateChallengeJuly

Stamp directly on the Core texture side. Looks awesome!

KateChallengeJuly2

LOVE that thick outlined image you get from the stamping…

And since circles seem to be a theme for a lot of our team right now, we thought we would share a layout from Design Team Member Gail Linder using our Brights Collection pack for this very challenge as well! Here is a little bit about this layout from Gail:

I think that bright, fun photos call for bright colors! I couldn’t go past an awesome YELLOW background for this layout!
Gail-Splash-Layout-1

To create an interesting background, I cut a heap of “bubbles” out of the same color cardstock using my Silhouette Cameo. I arranged them over the background and once I was happy with where they were, I gave each bubble a slight sand before adhering them. I just love the tone-on-tone look my background has now! And by sanding the edges of each shape, it makes them stand out just a little bit more!

Gail-Splash-Layout-2
I also used my Cameo to cut out the title and finally I added a cute banner up the top, adding a bit more color! You can see that I embossed and sanded each piece and I just love the look of the different textures all together.

I hope I’ve inspired you to pull out some Core and create your own background just like this!

And one from Design Team Member Debbie Standard. Debbie anchored her Brights Collection with some Whitewash. And how about all that embossing and sanding! Fabulous…every detail is just amazing!  Debbie combines multiple embossing folders form Darice, her Fiskars Paper crimper,  outlining on the layout base, die cuts….you name it!

What a great day…the sun is shining…only a few more days until Friday…what more can we ask for? WELL, Designer Debbie Standard has some layouts for you today.

This layout brought a smile to my face today. First up the Cosmo Cricket Woodgrain background…and the colors…yellow…gray…and that pop of red are just awesome! Oh and you cannot forget about the Tim Holtz Kraft-Core Seasonal Impressions. Debbie hand cut those details for her title and subtitles.

And how cute is this???  Debbie was inspired by all the sunburst layouts she has been  seeing on Pinterest. SPEAKING of Pinterest…make sure you follow us on our page HERE! What a great way to use up those scraps of Core you have in your bin. AND all those lush embossed (and sanded of course!) designs are gorgeous, gorgeous!

Debbie cut, embossed and sanded each section and then created the sunburst effect along the top.  Then she added the Stacy Julian Core Impressions pre-embossed words along the side.  Then she added some clouds that she die cut using the Whitewash collection which makes really great clouds by the way because you can lightly sand them and bring out the blue tones.

Supplies:

Stacy Jullian collection
White Wash Collection 6 X 6
Embossing folders – numerous
Sand It Gadget
Dust Buddy
Queen & Co. Washi tape and gems

It’s all about layers with Mary Pat

Cardstock, Cardstock and more Core’dinations Cardstock makes for GREAT layers, don’t you think?   Just that small border that Mary Pat Siehl created with the Darks collection pack colors instantly starts to draw your eye in and of course, the scoring!

And here is a little bit about this layout from Designer Mary Pat  Siehl AND there’s a card yet, too!

I love to layer my paper and with this project I layered my cardstock.  I sanded the edges of the first layer (the red)  to give it a distressed look.  I then took my blue sheet and scored the edges and sanded those and tore the bottom edge to expose the lighter core.  Core cardstock cuts absolutetly perfect in the Silhouette ( like butta!) and I cut out my title to use the negative space.  Finally I added some of the Core Tags.  I like to sometimes doodle on my projects and I doodled a rim around the tags just to define them a bit and to make them pop!
Supplies:
Core Essentials Darks
Core Tags
paper- My Mind’s Eye
Brads- My Mind’s Eye
Tags- Chic Tags and Elle’s Studio
Twine- The Stringery
Flair- paper play studio
wood veneer- studio calico
Sand It Gadget
Dust Buddy
And how about the cutest card you’ve ever seen? I have to say that toothpicks are a must have in my scrapbook room these days!  And this super cute Darice embossing folder with the clouds is so CUTE! Perfection.

First up today we have some fun stuff for  you.

We are sponsoring a giveaway over at Cookin’ Up Creations!  Would you love to win this???   Check out the Forum HERE and how to win HERE!

So we have some more ideas for you for Father’s Day. Love this idea from Jennifer Edwardson…it can be used for ANY occasion…at tri-fold card! Of course, it is full of tons and tons of gorgeous Core’dinations Cardstock!

Here is a little bit about this project from Jennifer:

I am pretty new to the Silhouette game but have been having so much fun finding new pieces to cut out and turn into great projects !! I loved this folding card and thought it would be great to add a couple of photos to as a gift…..It would look so cute on a shelf, mantle or bedside table too !!

I cut the base using the Kraft-Core Nostalgic Collection (No.23) and then ran either end thru my die cutting machine with swirly embossing folder. Then I sanded off the top layer to show the kraft underneath as well as the edges of the base too. I cut a few more doilies out as well and embossed both sides of the same cardstock and sanded off the top layer to those as well.

I punched a few flowers from some of the Core Essentials that coordinated with my photos and layered all the pieces together finishing them off with a little circle punched from my fave Core Couture in Black Tie. I added a couple of Core Couture butterflies and some clear gems from the David Tutera Celebrate collection too !! I really love how this all came together and can’t wait to give this to the kids’ grandparents :)

Supplies:
Kraft-Core Nostalgic Collection – No. 23
Core Essentials – Harbourside
Core Essentials – Dahlia
Core Essentials – Snowflake

Now….on to the good stuff…..
Today we are saying hello  to Clare Buswell!
Here is a little bit about Clare:

Hi! My name is Clare Buswell. I live in the south-west of Ireland in the countryside with Niall and our lovely 5 year old daughter Isabelle.

I’ve always been creative in some form or another, I studied graphic design at art college. I only discovered the whole world of paper-crafting after the birth of my daughter when I had little time but longed to be creative again. Card-making was the perfect answer for me and is now my passion. I also really love to make 3D paper projects. I love stamping, quilling and making my own embellishments, especially paper flowers! I love trying out different techniques and coming up with my own. I also love to paint with acrylics and watercolors.

I’ve been lucky enough to have my work published in Paper Crafts, CARDS and CardMaker magazines in the US and I design regularly for Cardmaking and Papercraft Magazine in the UK.

When I’m not paper-crafting I love to spend my time gardening, baking and with my family.

I’m really excited to be part of the Core’dinations ColorCore Cardstock design team!

If you have been to Clare’s blog you will notice she isn’t a layout girl…her cards are incredible so she did her signature paper ruffles for us today! You will see more of this gorgeous, handmade technique in the future and if you want to learn how to do it yourself, check out Clare’s blog HERE.
You can get some really realistic looking paper ruffles using this simple technique. Once you get the hang of it you can apply your paper ruffles to your cards and layouts in lots of different ways.  Here is how she does it:
To make the ruffles I cut strips of Core’dinations cardstock approx 1 1/2″ deep, mist the back of the cardstock with water, leave for a minute and the cardstock becomes malleable and easy to form into ruffles. Just be careful not to wet it too much! Once you’ve shaped your ruffles, leave to dry and apply to your projects with double sided tape. For a detailed tutorial you can visit my blog.
For my first card I went for an ombre effect and layered tones of blue and turquoise ruffles on my card. When layering the ruffles always start at the bottom. You can enhance the edges of the ruffles by gently rubbing them with your Sand It Gadget for some added texture.
Swoooooooooooooon!
